HS Football: Holy Redeemer heads to playoffs for first time

Amanda Ayers scored twice in the first half to reach 100 career goals Saturday and Lake-Lehman qualified for the PIAA playoffs and earned a spot in the District 2 Class 2A title game with a 2-0 victory over Berwick in a girls soccer district semifinal.The Black Knights will try to repeat their district championship of last year during Tuesday&#8217;s 5:30 p.m showdown with third-seeded Monrose at 5:30 p.m. on the Black Turf of Lake-Lehman High School.Ayers hit both goals in the game&#8217;s first 17 minutes, and that was enough to carry the top-seeded Black Knights to victory.Ayers&#8217; game-winning goal gave her the milestone career honor.Ayers struck quickly for Lake-Lehman with a strike in the third minute from Mackenzie Love. In the 17th, Emily Smith delivered the assist for the second tally.Lake-Lehman held the fifth-seeded Bulldogs to just four shots on goal. Emma Stroud made four stops to preserve the clean sheet for Lehman. Her counterpart, Jayden Michael, made 13 saves for Berwick.H.S. In the final match with Utica, Wilkes recorded their season-best hitting performance of .305 percent.
