Former Geisinger doctor files to have sexual assault suit moved out of county

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The Queen Bee is leaving the Bee Hive.</p><p>Patty Leighton, owner of the Bee Hive Gift Shop in the Midtown Village since March 1, 2009, has sold the business, effective Thursday, March 1.</p><p>Leighton, wife of former Wilkes-Barre mayor Tom Leighton, said the time was right &#8212; a customer offered to purchase the business and the deal was finalized.</p><p>Leighton said she will join her husband in the family real estate business, C.A. Leighton Real Estate, do some dog-walking in the her South Wilkes-Barre neighborhood, and she might even learn to play golf.</p><p>Mayor Leighton coined the rallying slogan &#8220;I Believe&#8221; during his tenure, and his wife decided to open the shop that sold collectibles, stationery, greeting cards, small furniture, candles and other items.</p><p>&#8220;Somebody approached me about buying the store,&#8221; Leighton said. &#8220;It just fell in my lap.&#8221;</p><p>The new owner is JoAnne Zarick, a faithful customer of the Bee Hive. Leighton said Zarick has some &#8220;wonderful ideas of some new lines top bring into the store.&#8221; She said Zarick will continue to offer customer favorites, like Susan Creek candles and melts, and Sassafras mats and inserts. Leighton said Zarick will honor gift certificates.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve really enjoyed it,&#8221; Leighton said. I have loved being downtown. Some people say you can&#8217;t make it downtown, but that&#8217;s just not true. You have to have the right products and good service.&#8221;</p><p>On the Bee Hive Facebook page, Leighton thanked her customers for supporting her over the nine years she has had the business.</p><p>&#8220;I have had the best experience, met the kindest people, and formed some beautiful, lasting friendships,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I wish each of my customers good health and fortune.&#8221;</p><p>Leighton said she will obtain her real estate license and work with her husband in the business. She said she doesn&#8217;t own a dog, but she loves them and she will be available to walk anybody&#8217;s dog in the neighborhood. She also said she needs to find someone to give her golf lessons.</p><p>&#8220;That person will have to have a lot of patience,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Leighton will lock up the store on Wednesday and Zarick will open it on Thursday.</p><p>&#8221;I will miss it,&#8221; Leighton said. &#8220;I poured my heart and soul into it. And will really miss my customers.&#8221;</p><style>
