<p>LARKSVILLE &#8212; Believing his father was going to harm his mother, prosecutors allege Ulysses Edward Denman took matters into his own hands.</p><p>Ulysses Denman, 20, killed his father, William Denman, by shooting him twice in the head with a .22-caliber handgun early Tuesday morning inside 590 Washington Ave., Larksville, according to charges filed Thursday.</p><p>A state police trooper arrested Ulysses Denman who was armed with a .22-caliber handgun at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday after seeing him exit the house, said Luzerne County First Assistant District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce.</p><p>An autopsy revealed William Denman, 64, died from two gunshot wounds to the head. His death was ruled a homicide by county Coroner William Lisman.</p><p>As to an alleged motive, Sanguedolce noted the younger Denman believed his father was going to harm his mother, Eleanor Denman.</p><p>&#8220;We know it had something to do with his belief he needed to protect his mother,&#8221; Sanguedolce said, adding that the son&#8217;s belief was not true.</p><p><strong>Apprehension</strong></p><p>The younger Denman, who resided next to his father at 588 Washington Ave., was being sought by state police who gathered outside the house Wednesday night, believing he was inside. After several hours, authorities left but several troopers and Larksville police stayed in the neighborhood.</p><p>&#8220;I commend the Larksville police, state police and our detectives in the search for this defendant,&#8221; Sanguedolce said. &#8220;He was encountered by state police who noticed he was carrying a firearm knowing the defendant was not to possess a firearm.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;During an interview with the defendant, he admitted to shooting his father,&#8221; Sanguedolce said.</p><p>Sanguedolce said a home surveillance system allegedly recorded Ulysses Denman inside his father&#8217;s residence on Tuesday.</p><p>During the interview, Ulysses Denman initially denied being inside his father&#8217;s residence. When confronted with information that cameras had recorded him inside, Ulysses Denman claimed self-defense, Sanguedolce said, before allegedly admitting he killed his father.</p><p>William Denman was found facing face-up on a first-floor couch when his wife, Eleanor, came home at about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday after working an overnight shift.</p><p>Hours after the discovery, state police named Ulysses Denman a person-of-interest and was wanted for questioning.</p><p>Late Wednesday night, a neighbor reported seeing Ulysses Denman enter 588 Washington Ave. Authorities surrounded the house and used a bullhorn to convince the younger Denman to exit.</p><p>When authorities left the house early Thursday morning, troopers and borough police stayed in the neighborhood.</p><p>A trooper spotted Ulysses Denman exit the front door and walked down Washington Avenue when he was approached by several troopers, who spotted a silver handgun with a wooden handle in his pocket, according to the criminal complaint.</p><p>Ulysses Denman was ordered to lie on the ground but went to his knees and placed his hands behind his head.</p><p>District Judge David Barilla in Forty Fort arraigned Ulysses Denman on charges of criminal homicide, firearms not to be carried without a license, illegal possession of a firearm and theft. He was jailed at the county correctional facility with no bail.</p><p>Ulysses Denman was a 2016 graduate of West Side Career and Technology Center, where he was a high honors student.</p><style>
