<p>DURYEA &#8212; Two officers had to be treated for smoke inhalation Friday but the homeowner made it out safely during a blaze on Pettebone Street.</p><p>Firefighters from several municipalities managed to contain the damage to a rear section of the residence.</p><p>&#8220;They made a hell of a stop,&#8221; Germania Hose Company Fire Chief Joe Korea said of the crews&#8217; efforts.</p><p>Initial 911 reports of someone trapped in the home at 147 Pettebone St. were determined to be unfounded after firefighters conducted a sweep through the building.</p><p>The blaze broke out about 11 a.m. The Excelsior Hose Co. said in a Facebook post that units arrived to find flames in the attic area.</p><p>Quick work by crews stopped the fire from spreading to the front of the house, Korea said.</p><p>Exterior siding was peeled off in the attic area of the home and charred wood was visible.</p><p>In addition to Germania Hose and Excelsior, crews responded from Avoca, West Pittston, and Pittston Township. Medic units also assisted.</p><p>Korea said he was very happy with how many volunteer firefighters were able to respond in the middle of the day, saying it was key in stopping the fire.</p><p>Fire marshals investigated and ruled the cause as accidental, police say.</p><p>Korea said the Red Cross had been notified and would be helping the homeowner.</p><style>
