<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A man who was re-sentenced on a pair of 1999 murders earlier this year is seeking the right to file another appeal in his case.</p><p>Kenneth Carl Crawford III, 35, originally of Oklahoma, has been in prison since 2001 for the murders of Diana Algar and Jose Molina at the Paradise Camp Resort in Hollenback Township.</p><p>He and co-defendant David Lee Hanley killed the pair after the couple picked up Crawford and Hanley while hitchhiking.</p><p>Crawford was granted a re-sentencing thanks to a recent Supreme Court ruling that determined that juvenile offenders would be required to have a &#8220;meaningful opportunity&#8221; for release, prohibiting mandatory life sentences. Crawford was 15 when the murders occurred.</p><p>In April, Luzerne County Judge Fred A. Pierantoni III gave Crawford two sentences of 26 years to life in prison, to run consecutively. He won&#8217;t be eligible for parole until 2052.</p><p>A filing from Crawford&#8217;s attorney, Sara Jacobson, is seeking to allow for Crawford to file another appeal, noting that a previous attempt at an appeal was blocked due to her own error.</p><p>Her filing indicates she had previously filed in May, seeking for Crawford&#8217;s new sentence to be reconsidered, a motion which was subsequently denied in June.</p><p>She filed a statement of errors in late July, but failed to file a notice of appeal until after the mandated 30-day period had passed. Crawford&#8217;s appeal was dismissed by the state Superior Court due to this error.</p><p>Jacobson&#8217;s filing points to herself as acting ineffectually for Crawford, saying her own actions prevented Crawford from having his right to an appeal.</p><p>Pierantoni scheduled a video hearing for Friday morning, where Jacobson will be able to argue for Crawford&#8217;s appeal.</p><style>

Convicted killer seeks new appeal, with his own attorney claiming ineffectiveness
