WEST PITTSTON &#8212; One second, Ellie Glatz was standing tall in Wyoming Area&#8217;s cage while her team was battling the most powerful offensive team in the league in a scoreless tie.The next instant, Glatz was making a desperate lunge to protect it.It worked.And now, both teams insist they have some work to do before districts.Warriors goalie Glatz made 15 saves Wednesday &#8212; including a dynamic, diving stop early in overtime, Mia Magnotta turned away seven shots on the other side and Wyoming Area ruined Division 1 champion Wyoming Seminary&#8217;s bid for a second straight perfect regular season when the teams played to a 0-0 tie at the Atlas Complex in a Wyoming Valley Conference finale for both.&#8220;It really brings our mentality up,&#8221; Glatz said. &#8220;Now we&#8217;re really prepared to go into playoffs.&#8221;Not that the hiccup brought Sem&#8217;s morale down.The Blue Knights, who finished league play at 12-0-1, clinched their second straight WVC Division 1 crown last week with a victory over Lake-Lehman and believed that win had also locked up the top seed over 10-1-2 Wyoming Area for the start of Monday&#8217;s District 2 Class A playoffs.But the season-ender did put a damper on the Blue Knights&#8217; two-year run of perfection in the league, turning a 26-game Division 1 winning streak that began in 2017 into a 27-game unbeaten streak Sem will take into next season.&#8220;I&#8217;ll take it, it&#8217;s not a loss,&#8221; Sem coach Karen Klassner said. &#8220;We knew coming in that we had won the championship. It takes the heat off, knowing that. They played a great game, Wyoming Area did. Toward the end, they were going for the tie. We have to start scoring. If we don&#8217;t start scoring, we&#8217;re not going to be long in the state tournament.&#8221;The defending District 2 Class A champion and returning PIAA finalist Blue Knights out-gunned their opponents 73-2 in the WVC season, put up at least 10 goals in three of those games and at least seven in two others and battered two opponents by a combined 18-0 last week.Yet, they followed that up with a 3-1 victory over Lehman and the scoreless deadlock with the Warriors on the grass field at Atlas to finish the year and give Klassner some concern.&#8220;We lost a heartbreaker (2-0 to Sem) here last year,&#8221; Wyoming Area coach Erin McGinley said. &#8220;This year, we kept a team that&#8217;s scoring multiple goals on every team in the area to nothing.&#8221;Glatz had a lot to do with that.She made some solid kick-saves, especially under a furious Sem offensive attack in the first half.&#8220;We&#8217;re pretty pleased with the way the kids played,&#8221; Klassner said. &#8220;I thought we played a great game. We don&#8217;t play well on grass, but we played well today. I thought we out-played them. We just didn&#8217;t score.&#8221;Glatz turned away a golden opportunity for Sem just 1:56 into overtime, when her diving stop prevented the winning goal.&#8220;I was a little nervous at the time,&#8221; Glatz, a junior, said. &#8220;I was on the ground and I saw the ball come out and I was pretty happy with that.&#8221;It was the second overtime tie this season for Glatz and the Warriors, who also wound up in a scoreless deadlock with Lake-Lehman.&#8221;Our mentality coming into this was we had nothing to lose,&#8221; Glatz said. &#8220;If we won our tied this game, it would be a good outcome.&#8221;Wyoming Valley West 10, Wallenpaupack 0Karaline Stelma had a hat trick, Cameryn Forgash had three assists and the Spartans strengthened their hold on the top seed in the next week&#8217;s District 2 Class 2A playoffs by blasting the Buckhorns.Stelma scored the first two goals of the game and added the first score of the second half as Valley West rolled to an 8-0 lead.Avary Heckman added two goals in the win and Jillian Boncewieski made two assists for the Spartans. Rina Tsioles, Elisabeth Luff and Jenna Rovine all finished with a goal and an assist for Valley West, which at the top of the District 2 Class 2A standings with a makeup game against Hazleton Area on Thursday remaining.Coughlin 2, Lake-Lehman 1Abie Sorokas and Jolene Ulichney scored goals and the Crusaders remained hopeful of jumping Valley West for the top seed in the District 2 Class 2A playoffs. Both Valley West and Coughlin, which plays Honesdale on Thursday, have a makeup game remaining and are separated by percentage points in the District 2 power ranking system.Briannah Lee made 17 saves to secure Wednesday&#8217;s victory for Coughlin. Nicole Leo scored for Lehman with 55 seconds left to break the shutout.
