<p>Don&#8217;t write off bad headaches as normal.</p><p>Whether it&#8217;s from a long day at work, a pollen-filled morning or a loud concert, headaches can creep into your day in a number of ways. For most people, an occasional headache isn&#8217;t anything to worry about. If the pain isn&#8217;t too severe, you can take a pain reliever and go about your day.</p><p>For people who get chronic headaches, it&#8217;s common to shrug them off as &#8220;just something that happens to me&#8221; or &#8220;normal.&#8221; But chronic headaches mean your body is trying to tell you something.</p><p>Chronic headaches can come from stress, allergies, a cold or a migraine trigger among other things.</p><p>If you get two headaches a week for more than two straight weeks, talk to your doctor. It&#8217;s also important to talk to your doctor if your headaches are especially painful or make it hard to go about your day. They could be caused by a more serious condition.</p><p>Here are some pf the most common reasons you may get a headache.</p><p><strong>Tension headaches </strong></p><p>Tension headaches are one of your body&#8217;s possible reactions to high levels of stress, concentration and often, screen time. After long periods of high-stress concentration, you may feel a low or moderate amount of pain. Tension headaches are not harmful, and they can be cured with pain relievers. The pain results from excessive contraction in the muscles of the head and neck.</p><p>Some experts estimate that 30 to 70 percent of people experience tension headaches.</p><p>Many people report tension headaches feeling like someone wrapping a band around their head. Often, people feel tension headaches on their forehead, back of their head or on their neck.</p><p>Tension headaches usually do not cause nausea, vision changes or loss of balance.</p><p><strong>Sinus headaches </strong></p><p>If you have a cold or allergies, you may get a headache, too.</p><p>We have four pairs of cavities in our heads known as sinuses. When you get an upper respiratory infection or allergy flare, your sinuses become inflamed and fill with mucus. Once they&#8217;re full, you may start to feel pressure and pain, especially near your face and eyes. This pressure can turn into a full-blown headache for some people.</p><p>Pain relievers, antihistamines and decongestants are all effective ways to stop a sinus headache. These three medicines are especially effective when taken together.</p><p>Sinus headaches are normally not severe, and they shouldn&#8217;t affect your vision. However, because sinus pressure can affect the inner ear, it is possible to feel &#8220;off-balance&#8221; from a sinus headache.</p><p><strong>Migraine headaches </strong></p><p>Do you get headaches that cause you to feel nauseous, see stars or make you sensitive to lights and sounds? If so, you might have a migraine.</p><p>Migraine headaches are usually the most painful type of headache. Migraines can have a variety of symptoms, and the severity of the headache is different for everyone.</p><p>Somewhere between 12 and 27 percent of people get migraines. Women are also three times as likely to get them.</p><p>Most migraines have a trigger, or something that causes them to happen. Try to identify and avoid your trigger, if possible, to avoid migraines.</p><p>If you are having severe pain, your doctor can prescribe special pain relievers designed for migraines.</p><p><strong>When to see a doctor </strong></p><p>Headaches with low and moderate levels of pain are often not cause for concern. However, if you get a headache that causes severe pain, or they happen frequently and interfere with your life, you should work with your doctor to identify what&#8217;s causing the headaches so you can treat the root cause.</p><p>In addition to severe pain, slurred speech, nausea, stiff neck and fainting can all be symptoms of more serious conditions such as a stroke, another vascular problem in the brain, meningitis or a brain tumor. Seek emergency medical attention without delay if you have any of these symptoms.</p><style>
