H.S. Football: Dallas falls hard in D2-4A title game

The electric run by the Misericordia University women&#8217;s soccer team came to an end with a 1-0 loss at Middlebury in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, Sunday.Ellie Greenberg scored the the game-winner for Middlebury in the 66th minute Sunday, on a cross from Sabrina Glaser. It was her sixth goal of the season and her second straight game-winning tally.Misericordia had opportunities offensively, but couldn&#8217;t put one in the back of the net.Michaela Fasolino had one of the Cougars&#8217; best chances when she lofted a ball on goal from 18-yards out after a touch pass from Ashley Edgell in the 53rd minute. The Panthers&#8217; goalkeeper leaped in the air and barely got a hand on the ball to deflect it over the crossbar.Later in the half, Edgell hit the far post with a header after Evelyn Logie played her the ball from the left side in the 65th minute.Both scoring chances were generated off free kicks from Kristen Ritter, who has been a game-changing athlete for the Cougars throughout her four-year career.The Cougars nearly took the lead in the first half, but couldn&#8217;t connect on a quality scoring chance in the 23rd minute.Maddy Carlo played a beautiful through ball to Kendall Pearage in the box, however, the Middlebury keeper was able to disrupt the play and redirect the shot before Pearage could get enough on the ball.The Cougars had another opportunity on the keeper&#8217;s ensuing deflection, but were unable to get a shot off before the defense could recover.Misericordia&#8217;s defense fought off several scoring chances throughout the afternoon while keeping the Cougars within striking distance.MEN&#8217;S SWIMMINGRecord-setting day for WilkesJared Byrne set his third individual record and was a part of his fourth relay record of the weekend when he led off the 400 Freestyle Relay, leading Wilkes to a second-place finish at the two-day Diamond City Invitational.Byrne broke the Wilkes 100 Freestyle record with a time of 47.88. Timothy Sechler-Stone set the other program record Sunday with a time of 2:06.70 in the 200 Backstroke.King&#8217;s won the championship with 673.5 points to 574 for Wilkes.Overall, the Colonels set nine new records and the second place finish was the best for the men&#8217;s team at the annual event since the program rebirth in 2014.WOMEN&#8217;S SWIMMINGWilkes places seventhAbby Keating took third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:19.65 as Wilkes finished seventh among nine teams at the 2018 Diamond City Invitational hosted by King&#8217;s College at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.
