Police: Driver who hit school bus in WB under influence of drugs

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; With holiday shoppers and music lovers attending Downtown Wilkes-Barre&#8217;s Old-Fashioned Holiday Market today and tomorrow, <ins>Nov. 30 and Dec. 1,</ins> it&#8217;s safe to say you&#8217;ll find many pairs of mothers and daughters in the crowd.</p><p>But one attractive duo, blonde-haired, brown-eyed mom April and her look-alike daughter Molly, have no intention of shopping.</p><p>Instead, the two Belgian draft horses will be circling Public Square again and again, providing a memorable ride around the center of town for other downtown visitors.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a nice, long seven minutes,&#8221; said 16-year-old Madison Dompkosky of Mountain Top, describing the horse-drawn Victorian carriage rides she has arranged for Brookvalley Farm of Carbondale to bring to Wilkes-Barre from 3 to 7 p.m. both days.</p><p>The rides cost $5 per person and all proceeds will go to CASA Luzerne County and the Wyoming Valley Children&#8217;s Association, two organizations that benefit children in need.</p><p>&#8220;The first year we did it, we had lines wrapping around the Square,&#8221; said Dompkosky, a Wyoming Seminary junior who was crowned Miss Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen in 2017 and is no stranger to fundraising. &#8220;People came from 2 hours away.&#8221;</p><p>The horses are an eye-catching pair, owner Laura Duda from Brookvalley Farm said. &#8220;They&#8217;re very impressive, weighing about 1,800 pounds each, and they&#8217;re beautiful. I&#8217;m not just saying that because they&#8217;re mine.&#8221;</p><p>The animals are gentle, photogenic and happy to be petted, Duda said. They also appreciate it when people behave calmly and don&#8217;t rush at them.</p><p>The Victorian carriage can hold four to six adults, said Duda who will dress &#8220;like a Victorian caroler&#8221; and serve as driver, as she has during previous Wilkes-Barre events.</p><p>&#8220;Madison and her mom, Sandy, are really good&#8221; at arranging riders in the carriage, Duda added, so friends and families can ride together.</p><p>&#8220;Children are usually very excited, and sometimes adults are just as excited as the kids,&#8221; Duda said. &#8220;It helps you imagine what it would have been like to travel this way all the time.&#8221;</p><p>In addition to the rides, the Old-Fashioned Holiday Market will include pop-up shops, live music from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days on Public Square and a live nativity from 5 to 7 p.m. both days, presented by Moving River Ministries with animals from the Lands at Hillside Farms.</p><style>
