Bloomsburg women&#8217;s basketball coach Alison Tagliaferri figured to have a solid one-two inside punch this season with juniors Meghan Corridoni and Taylor Montana. She got half of her wish.Corridoni, from Holy Redeemer, was lost for the year due to an injury and that left Montana to hold down the fort. And, she&#8217;s doing a great job.Montana, a 5-foot-11 forward from Berwick, was named PSAC East Player of the Year at the start of the week &#8211; her fourth league honor this season. She earned her latest after scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in a 78-71 league victory at Shippensburg on Jan. 30 and collecting 15 points with nine rebounds in a 76-61 league triumph over West Chester last Saturday in Bloomsburg.Entering this week, Montana averaged 13.1 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Huskies, who are 15-7 overall and leading the PSAC East with an 11-4 record. She had a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds in a 77-58 league victory over Lock Haven on Jan. 2 and has hit double figures in the team&#8217;s last seven games.&#8220;Taylor has really stepped up with the absence of Meghan,&#8221; Tagliaferri said. &#8220;She has really focused more on rebounding this year which was something we needed.&#8221;The coach said that she has never coached anyone as athletic at Montana.&#8220;When she is doing well and working hard, we are just a much better team,&#8221; the coach said. &#8220;I look forward to continuing to watch her grow.&#8221;McKenna Zeller (Lycoming)The sophomore was named Middle Atlantic Conference Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 28 after a pair of outstanding efforts for the Warriors women&#8217;s team the previous week. The Holy Redeemer grad captured the 100 backstroke (1:01.26) and the 200 backstroke (2:14.76) against Lock Haven on Jan. 26 in Williamsport and captured the 50 free (28.97) and the 200 backstroke (2:32.40) against Lebanon Valley on Jan. 27 in Annville. She also swam legs on the winning 200 medley (2:14.41) and the winning 200 freestyle (1:57.80) in the Lebanon Valley meet. Zeller heads into the MAC Championships Feb. 14-17 in York ranked second in both the 100 back (59.93) and the 200 back (2:10.89).Rebecca Prociak (King&#8217;s)The 5-foot-11 junior was named MAC Freedom Player of the Week on Monday after a big effort for the women&#8217;s basketball team the previous week. The Holy Redeemer grad had a career-high 32 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and two blocked shots in a 79-75 loss to Eastern and came back with 27 points, 18 rebounds, eight assists and three steals in a 71-62 triumph over FDU-Florham. And, the highlight for Prociak in the latter game was the fact that she scored her 1,000th career point for the Monarchs. She&#8217;s averaging 17.9 points and 10.2 rebounds a game.Lydia Lawson (Elizabethtown)The 5-foot-4 junior guard continues her standout play with the women&#8217;s basketball team. The Holy Redeemer grad had a game-high 25 points against Susquehanna last week along with six rebounds, five assists and three steals. On the season, Lawson leads the team in scoring (16.3), assists (102) and steals (70). She had a career-high 37 points in an 82-74 overtime victory over Susquehanna on Jan. 12 and a career-high 11 assists in a 70-63 loss to Juniata on Jan. 23.Mitchell Martin (East Carolina)The freshman collected his first collegiate victory with the men&#8217;s indoor track team when he finished first in the 3,000-meter run at the Doc Vale Virginia Tech Elite meet last week in Blacksburg, Va. His time was 9:09.17. The Dallas grad opened his career with the Pirates by finishing ninth in the mile in 4:39.79 at the Dick Taylor Carolina Cup on Jan. 12. And, on Jan. 19, he finished 12th in the 5,000-meter run in 15:47.97 in the Hokie Invitational.Lindsey Oremus (St. Joseph&#8217;s)The senior finished second in the 3,000-meter run for the women&#8217;s indoor track team at the Villanova Invitational last Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. Her time was 10:02.45, which was a little over three seconds faster than the time the Dallas grad posted (9:59.49) when she finished 11th at the Penn State National Jan. 25-26. She also ran a leg on the Hawks&#8217; DMR at Penn State and helped it to finish third in 12:01.20.Annalise Cheshire (Denison)The freshman and the women&#8217;s swim team turned back Ohio Wesleyan 193-101 in the final dual meet of the regular season last Saturday. The Dallas grad captured the 50 backstroke in 27.91, the 100 backstroke in 59.84 and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay in 1:51.25.Caroline Banas (Scranton)The 5-foot-9 junior opened the second semester with a pair of solid performances in the high jump for the women&#8217;s indoor track team. The Holy Redeemer grad finished first in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, &#190; inches and also helped the 4x200 relay finish fifth in 1:56.41 at the SU Challenge last Saturday. Banas finished second in the high jump with a 5-foot, 2 &#188; inch effort and finished 15th in the long jump with a 15 foot, 4 &#190; inch effort at the Moravian Indoor Meet Jan. 26.Matthew Edkins (St. Lawrence)The senior and four-time Division III All-American ended the regular season diving for the men&#8217;s swim team with a 7-0 record in the 1-meter and a 5-0 mark in the 3-meter. Two of the foes didn&#8217;t have 3-meter boards. The Lake-Lehman grad&#8217;s best marks this season were 289.10 in the 1-meter against Skidmore in a home meet on Oct. 26 and 285.10 in the 3-meter against Clarkson on Oct. 27. Edkins is prepping for the Liberty League Championships on Feb. 20-23 in Ithaca, N.Y.Mason Kimbell (Salisbury)The sophomore finished third out of 19 in the 5,000 meter run for the men&#8217;s indoor track team at the Vince Brown Invitational with a personal best time of 15:42.94 last Saturday. He was the second collegiate finisher. It was a big improvement for the Berwick grad since his season-opening effort when he finished eighth at the CNU Holiday Open on Dec. 9 with a time of 16:20.68. He finished 24th in the 3,000 (9:30.95) at the Patriot Games Jan. 26.Savanna Robinson (Keystone)The 5-foot-3 junior guard continues to be a solid player for the women&#8217;s basketball team. Robinson had 13 points and four assists in a win over Bryn Athyn. The Coughlin grad has played in 20 games with 16 starts and is averaging 7.8 points and is second in steals with 39 and third in assists with 41. Robinson has connected on 28 of 82 3-point shots (34.1 percent).<style>
