Police: Hazleton man caught with 1,800 bags of heroin

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Mike Belusko&#8217;s loss is Tony Brooks&#8217; gain in the May 21 primary, and it&#8217;s because of Harry L. Cropp III.</p><p>On Thursday, Cropp corrected his nominating petitions and put himself in the Democratic primary for the Wilkes-Barre City Council District B seat held by Brooks. Cropp initially filed as a challenger to Belusko in District A.</p><p>Rather than disqualify him outright, the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections contacted Cropp to find out if he mixed up his districts. Bureau director Marisa Crispell said she conferred with solicitor Mike Butera to determine what to do.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re going to call him and give him the opportunity to correct the clerical error,&#8221; Crispell said.</p><p>Cropp did, crossing out the &#8220;A&#8221;s in the paperwork he submitted at Tuesday&#8217;s filing deadline. Next to the &#8220;A&#8221;s he printed &#8220;B&#8221;s with his initials and date to indicate he made the changes.</p><p>Cropp, of Anthracite Street, who listed his occupation as a homemaker, did not return a call for comment.</p><p>Butera said by all indications, Cropp made a clerical error. &#8220;That&#8217;s what I determined it to be,&#8221; he said, adding Cropp lives in District B, votes in it and the signatures on the petitions are from residents in that district.</p><p>&#8220;That&#8217;s where he belongs,&#8221; Butera said.</p><p>Cropp joined Mark Shaffer and Eugene Wallace on the Democratic ballot. The winner will face Brooks, a Republican, in the Nov. 6 general election.</p><p>&#8220;I welcome anyone who wants to make Rolling Mill Hill, the Iron Triangle, downtown Wilkes-Barre and all of Wilkes-Barre a better place,&#8221; Brooks said. &#8220;I look forward to discussing and debating city issues with the winner of the primary.&#8221;</p><p>Belusko was worried he would have a challenger in the primary. But the correction kept him unopposed. &#8220;It&#8217;s all straightened out,&#8221; Belusko said.</p><style>
