Seniors probe Pashinski about REAL ID

<p>WRIGHT TWP. &#8212; In a room full of enough energy to power a small town, the joke become obvious as youngsters took the, um, shell of paper remaining after cutting out an egg shape and grinned through the remaining ovoid hole.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got a class of eggheads!&#8221; kindergarten teacher Patti Capaci quipped as her students, rarely staying seated for more than few minutes, walked up to show their creations.</p><p>Actually, the real art was supposed to be the egg they made as one of many lessons taught by visiting Misericordia College students on the sixth annual &#8220;Math Day&#8221; at St. Jude Elementary. Students in classes got short visits squeezing in a lot of lessons disguised as fun.</p><p>The theme: math as art. Projects ranged from making &#8220;stained glass&#8221; windows out of fractions of shapes glued to clear plastic wrap stuck in a cardboard frame, mosaics, clocks warped &#224; la artists Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol, kite designs inspired by Piet Mondrian&#8217;s work, and triangles akin to landscape art by Jen Aranyi.</p><p>In Danielle Correll&#8217;s pre-kindergarten class, they strung colorful pasta &#8212; red, blue and green &#8212; to make necklaces, prompting Nathaniel Prezelski to make a somewhat obvious decision: &#8220;I&#8217;ll eat it for lunch.&#8221;</p><p>When one of the Misericordia students suggested the string looked like fishing line and asked if he had ever fished, Nathaniel dissed the sport. &#8220;Yeah, but it&#8217;s kinda boring.&#8221; </p><p>For Capaci&#8217;s class, it was bunnies made from inverted paper cups with two plastic spoon ears, one ear having a number and the other sporting dots that add up to the same number. Then came the eggs.</p><p>Students drew patterns on them, colored them in, and cut them out. Most started using the remaining hole as a frame for their faces, posing for smartphone photos by Capaci. Evelynn Jacob saw more potential: she let it slip to her shoulders and boasted about her new necklace.</p><p>But Charlie Hair was hardly ready to quit after cutting the shape out. He flipped it over and made a long rectangle with rounded corners. &#8220;It&#8217;s a tail!&#8221; Then he flipped it over and drew a face.</p><p>Still unsatisfied, he grabbed a spare piece of white paper and drew two stubby legs, cut them out and glued them on the fat end of the ovoid. <em>Still</em> unsatisfied, he drew two arms and cut <em>them</em> out &#8212; giving them a flexing shape with impressive biceps.</p><p>&#8220;He&#8217;s so strong and has big muscles!&#8221; Charlie pointed out proudly.</p><p>Busting yet another stereotype, eggheads can be athletic, too.</p><style>
