WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Hazleton man was released from jail Wednesday when he was sentenced to time served on charges he fired a gun into a vehicle last year.Hazleton police charged Christopher Irizarry, 27, of N. Laurel St., with discharging several rounds from a firearm into a 2001 Toyota Solara on Vince Street Aug. 5.One round struck an occupied house where the owner of the Toyota was sleeping, police said.Irizarry ran from the scene dropping a .380 semi-automatic pistol behind a residence on West Diamond Street.Police said Irizarry was not permitted to own, carry or possess a firearm due to a 2013 drug trafficking conviction.Irizarry pleaded guilty to firearms not to be carried without a license and criminal mischief.Prosecutors withdrew charges of illegal possession of a firearm, discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, reckless endangering and a second count of criminal mischief against Irizarry.At a sentencing hearing before Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough, Assistant District Attorney Angela Sperrazza requested a sentence of one-year to 18 months in jail due to the seriousness of the shooting.Irizarry&#8217;s attorney, Qiana Murphy Lehman, asked for a sentence of 276 days time served due to the fact no one was injured in the shooting.Vough sided with Lehman, sentencing Irizarry to one-year, less one day to two-years, less two days, followed by two years probation.
