KINGSTON &#8212; There&#8217;s no way of knowing if what happened Thursday had happened before in Wyoming Valley Conference softball. The history is too extensive, and there&#8217;s been no reliable record-keeping throughout the years.No matter. Because the Division 3 showdown for first place will be a memory carried on for everyone there.Wyoming Seminary&#8217;s Delaney Romanchick threw a no-hitter. But so did Hanover Area&#8217;s Sara Tuzinski. And in a game with no hits, Seminary prevailed 1-0 to take over first place.Seminary (12-1 Div. 3, 16-3) finishes its WVC season Monday against GAR (2-10 Div. 3, 3-13). Hanover Area (11-2 Div. 3, 14-4) plays at Northwest (8-5 Div. 3, 12-7) on Monday.&#8220;It feels great,&#8221; said Romanchick, who lost a no-hitter in the seventh inning against Hanover Area in a 4-2 win on April 30. &#8220;Hanover is a great team, and we knew it was going to be a tough game from the beginning. We knew they were going to battle after the last game ended and we were ready to battle, too.&#8221;Romanchick recorded 10 strikeouts and walked five, working out of a couple sticky situations in the sixth and seventh innings. Tuzinski fanned 12 &#8212; including the 300th of her career &#8212; and walked two. She allowed one baserunner &#8212; a fourth-inning walk to Campbell Kelly &#8212; after the first inning.&#8220;They&#8217;re both aces, no doubt about it,&#8221; Seminary coach Steve Mytych said. &#8220;There was a championship feel to the game. We got a baserunner on and decided to test their catcher.&#8221;That baserunner was Mytych&#8217;s sister, Aubrey, who drew a two-out walk in the first inning. She stole second and then, on a delayed steal of third, an error allowed her to score the game&#8217;s only run.After that, Tuzinski retired 16 of the next 17 batters to finish off her no-hitter.Romanchick retired the first eight batters she faced until issuing a two-out walk to Hanover Area&#8217;s Ally Sheridan in the third. She did the same with two outs in the fifth, walking Molly Corbett. The Hawkeyes weren&#8217;t able to capitalize on either chance.The sixth and seventh innings didn&#8217;t go as smoothly.Romanchick faced the same part of the Hanover Area order in the sixth that broke up her April 30 no-hit bid with three consecutive hits. Sarah Whitesell walked with one out but was erased on Aleissa Mangan&#8217;s fielder&#8217;s choice. Tuzinski followed with a walk, putting runners on first and second, but Romanchick ended the inning with a groundout.&#8220;I was thinking about that,&#8221; Romanchick said. &#8220;I&#8217;m actually glad we got to face them in the sixth inning. It took a little bit of pressure off in the seventh.&#8221;A little pressure, not a lot.With one out in the seventh, Hanover Area&#8217;s Kasidy Slusser reached on an error on her slow roller. Seminary elected to intentionally walk Corbett, putting the tying run on second. Romanchick came back with her 10th strikeout for the second out.The final out was a challenge. Sheridan hit a slow grounder up the first-base line. First baseman Halle Kehl had to charge toward home to field the ball and then turn and throw to second baseman Akira Kopec, who was covering first, for the third out.&#8220;Never seen anything like that,&#8221; Hanover Area coach Kathy Healey said of the dual no-hitter. &#8220;Both pitchers played great, both teams played great. Our kids never gave up. We were in it in the seventh inning and had a chance in the seventh inning.&#8220;We battled and Sara pitched amazing.&#8221;Tunkhannock 5, Berwick 2Kendra Schultz struck out 14 as Tunkhannock clinched its second consecutive WVC Division 2 championship.Schultz and Jena Simmons added two RBI each for the Tigers (11-1 Div. 2, 15-4). Erin Dun was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.Kelsey Caladie doubled and had and RBI for Berwick (4-8 Div. 2, 6-8). Hannah Hess also had an RBI.Lake-Lehman 7, Marian Catholic 3Savannah Purdy knocked in two runs and Hailey Evans tripled as Lake-Lehman (8-9) picked up a key non-conference win.Jillian Ulozas and Corrina Scoblick added two hits each for the Black Knights, who need to finish among the top eight teams in the District 2 Class 4A standings or with at least a .500 record to make the postseason. They play Meyers on Thursday, at Dallas on Sunday and at MMI Prep on Monday.Jade Ritsick was 3-for-4 for Marian (10-10).Holy Redeemer 12, GAR 2 (6 inn.)Holy Redeemer scored eight times in the sixth inning to end the game early.Bailey McDermott and Olivia Murray had doubles for the Royals (7-6 Div. 3, 7-9).
