<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Weatherly man was sentenced Thursday to spend at least three months in jail and register his address with authorities for 15 years on charges he molested a girl in Hazleton.</p><p>David O&#8217;Gorman, 52, of Hudsondale Street, broke down sobbing when he apologized to the girl before Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough, saying what he had done was a mistake</p><p>Vough abruptly stopped O&#8217;Gorman.</p><p>&#8220;A mistake is when you overdraft your checkbook. A mistake is not when you sexually abuse a child,&#8221; Vough said to O&#8217;Gorman, sentencing him to three-to-23 months at the county correctional facility.</p><p>O&#8217;Gorman was scheduled for a trial in February but under a negotiated plea agreement between Assistant District Attorney Angela Sperrazza and his lawyer, James W. Barr, he pleaded no contest to a charge of indecent assault without consent of other.</p><p>Charges of indecent assault and corruption of minors were withdrawn against O&#8217;Gorman.</p><p>A no contest plea means a defendant does not accept or deny responsibility but agrees to accept punishment.</p><p>Sperrazza said the girl and her family trusted O&#8217;Gorman, who took advantage of the child.</p><p>Hazleton police investigated allegations by the girl and her mother that O&#8217;Gorman molested the child while acting as a caregiver inside a home in January 2018.</p><p>O&#8217;Gorman was watching the girl and her two siblings on a school snow day while their mother went to work. When the mother returned home, O&#8217;Gorman quickly left the residence.</p><p>The girl told her mother O&#8217;Gorman molested her but she was afraid to make him stop, fearing for her two younger siblings, court records say.</p><p>NOTE: This story has been corrected to correct the charge O&#8217;Gorman pleaded no contest to.</p><style>
