MMI students place first in state science competition

<p>Misericordia University recently presented its Colleges Against Cancer Chapter with the 2019 Outstanding Service Organization Award at the 36th annual Leadership Awards Dinner in Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall.</p><p>The chapter was recognized as the university&#8217;s top student service organization, as it hosted its ninth annual Relay for Life in April &#8211; an event that raised more than $36,000 for the fight against cancer. The student-run fundraiser for the American Cancer Society has grown incrementally since it raised $7,000 during its inaugural effort in 2011. Overall, the annual event has raised more than $266,000 since its inception.</p><p>The 2019 Relay for Life featured 40 teams and attracted hundreds of campus and community supporters to the Anderson Sports and Health Center. The Colleges Against Cancer Chapter members organized numerous events throughout the year to raise money in support of the relay, including a Bark for Life in October and a Turkey Trot race in November.</p><p>Student co-chairs for the 2019 relay were Catherine Silveri, Plains; Olivia Johnson, Jamison; and Michaela Daley, Doylestown. Elizabeth Pedro, technical administrator for the Information Technology Department at Misericordia University, is the advisor to the chapter.</p><style>
