<p>WRIGHT TWP. &#8212; Crestwood School Board opened Wednesday&#8217;s meeting by appointing former Board Member Al Miller to finish the term of Joseph Kaminski, who resigned May 29. The board also voted to advertise for a new superintendent, despite a previous decision to negotiate with Acting Superintendent Joseph Rasmus.</p><p>After the meeting, solicitor Jack Dean said the board was unable to come to an agreement with Rasmus, who took over after Joseph Gorham was put on paid leave late last year when the state discovered the district lacked required clearances for bus drivers. That discovery ultimately led to separation agreements with Gorham and Operations Manager Chris Gegaris, and the cancellation of the bus contract with Rinehimer Bus lines.</p><p>On Tuesday, Rinehimer filed a lawsuit accusing Crestwood of a breach of contract. That did not stop the board from voting Wednesday night on a new contract with G. Davis, a company Dallas School District has used for years. The contract runs through June 2024, with one option for a five-year extension. Dean said 41 drivers have already been hired and obtained all clearances. He added that details of the contract cannot be released until G. Davis executes the deal.</p><p>Board President Bill Jones said the board wanted make a deal with Rasmus but couldn&#8217;t wait any longer. He said Rasmus is still welcome to apply. The ad for applicants should run this week, and the district will give two weeks for applications to be submitted.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;Hopefully, we&#8217;ll have someone by the start of school,&#8221; he added.</p><p>Jones also said the board opted for Miller out of four applicants for the vacant seat because he had experience and would be up to speed quickly, which he said is important because there are only about five months left in Kaminski&#8217;s term. Miller was not on the primary ballot and, barring a decision to run as an independent, won&#8217;t be on the November ballot. This means he will be out of the job in early December when the new board reorganizes as required by state law each year.</p><p>The board also approved a change in prescription coverage for teachers, from Express Scripts to Benecard, a move that Dean said should save about $180,000. At the last meeting the move was discussed as an important part in keeping the budget balanced for 2019-20 without a previously discussed layoff of up to 10 support staff employees.</p><p>The budget was not on the agenda Wednesday. The board approved a proposed final budget May 29 that includes a 6.4 percent tax increase. By law that budget must be available for public inspection for 30 days before a final vote. The board has scheduled a meeting June 28 for that vote.</p><style>
