Uncle to face homicide charge in nephew’s fatal stabbing

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A man is jailed on $100,000 bail on charges he illegally possessed a firearm after city police investigated gunfire in the area of 184 Carey Ave. on Wednesday.</p><p>Police allege Shannon Dumay, 38, discharged a firearm multiple times into the ground while hanging out with friends at about 2:20 a.m.</p><p>Police said Dumay is not permitted to own, carry or possess a firearm due to a prior criminal conviction.</p><p>Dumay was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Rick Cronauer in Wilkes-Barre on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.</p><p>According to the criminal complaint:</p><p>An officer in the area of 184 Carey Ave. noticed a muzzle flash and heard gunshots.</p><p>Other officers responded to the residence and attempted to speak with Dumay, who became argumentative and refused to cooperate.</p><p>Officers spoke to a woman who was not identified in the complaint.</p><p>She told police she arrived home from work at about 11:30 p.m. and hung out with friends and her children outside. While they were talking, she claimed someone brought up about owning a gun.</p><p>She retrieved her firearm that Dumay took from her and attempted to fire it but it jammed. As she cleared the firearm, it accidentally fired a round and she reloaded the gun.</p><p>Dumay took control of the firearm and fired it multiple times into the ground near the porch, the complaint says.</p><p>She took the firearm from Dumay and fired a round, which was seen by the officer.</p><p>Police said those at the house used the flashlight feature on their cell phones to pick up items from the ground presumably shell casings.</p><p>One shell casing was found by police.</p><p>Police said Dumay kept rubbing his hands in his clothes when he was told he was going to be given a gun shot residue test for gunpowder on his hands, the complaint says.</p><p>Court records say Dumay was sentenced to one-year probation after he pled guilty to a drug possession charge filed by state police in 2006.</p><style>
