Kingston woman says medical marijuana use led to Children and Youth inquiry

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; While thousands of area residents enjoyed all the fun and fare at Kirby Park Saturday, about 150 guests mingled on the rooftop of Citizens Bank in downtown Wilkes-Barre to celebrate the city&#8217;s 250th birthday.</p><p>Overlooking the beautiful vantage point that encompassed much of the downtown and Susquehanna River, guests listened to live music and enjoyed cocktails and catered delights from Johnathan&#8217;s restaurant.</p><p>Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce COO Lindsay Griffin said that the gala is doubling as an additional fundraiser for the Luzerne County Historical Fund. She also gave thanks for the even&#8217;s committee and Patty Hughes for making both the Kirby Park and bank parties a reality.</p><p>From beehive-shaped cookies commemorating the occasion to a two-layer cake matching the theme &#8212; and city&#8217;s logo, guests were able to find everything Wilkes-Barre throughout the gala&#8217;s decor.</p><p>City Councilman Tony Brooks happily told guests the historical significance of the location, which he aided in choosing for the gala.</p><p>&#8220;Right now we are overlooking the River Street historic district that consists of 215 historic buildings along Franklin Street and River Street,&#8221; he said, adding the he hopes the event will help to bring more of the city together.</p><p>Karel Zubris, however, was more interested in the view of the city&#8217;s skyline. Overlooking from the rooftop&#8217;s edge, she hoped the owners of the building will open the rooftop more often and show off another hidden treasure of the city.</p><p>&#8220;Can you imagine if they brought this back to life again? The stories that could be told &#8230; they should bring this back, because it would really bring a lot of new interesting networking opportunities to the city,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Zubris, a Wilkes-Barre native, explained that while the bank was erected in the 1920s in was a pivotal part of the city, with plenty of historical architecture.</p><p>&#8220;Wilkes-Barre has so many hidden treasures,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Wilkes-Barre is like a hidden nugget of historical treasures, and it&#8217;s time we unveil this one to the public.&#8221;</p><p>The city partnered with the Wilkes-Barre Preservation Society, the Diamond City Partnership, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce and the Times Leader Media Group to sponsor the event.</p><p>Times Leader Publisher Mike Murray said the decision to act as the event&#8217;s media sponsor was easy to make.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s exciting to be a part of it. None of us will be around for the next 250th,&#8221; he said of the decision. &#8220;It&#8217;s just a great opportunity for us to support the city and everything that&#8217;s going on in the city.&#8221;</p><style>
