<p>HUNTSVILLE &#8212; The third annual Ruth&#8217;s Chris Golf Classic, benefiting the Dinners for Kids program, will be held Monday, Oct. 7, at Huntsville Golf Club.</p><p>The Dinner for Kids program helps families battling childhood hunger by providing healthy meals.</p><p>Maureen Metz said the company donated $38,727.18 last year for dinner for kids by hosting a golf tournament. Over $66,000 has been raised over two years for the charity.</p><p>As of 2017, there have been a recorded 437,340 food insecure children in the state of Pennsylvania alone. For a third consecutive year, Ruth&#8217;s Chris Steak House and its franchisee Metz Culinary Management are partnering with Dinners for Kids that provides weekly meals to children in the Wyoming Valley West and Dallas School District.</p><p>Rick Sell, vice president of restaurant operations at Metz Culinary Management, and Jeff Metz, president and CEO of Metz, said there will be a reception and awards ceremony after the tournament at Ruth&#8217;s Chris Steakhouse, Mohegan Sun Casino, in Plains Township.</p><p>Jeff Metz said the golf tournament was inspired by the Dinners for Kids&#8217; initiative to combat local food insecurity. All event proceeds go to the nonprofit, and account for one third of their annual operating expenses.</p><p>The event begins with a day long golf tournament with more than 100 players and concludes with an awards ceremony catered by Metz&#8217;s own Culinary Creations and the Ruth&#8217;s Chris Steak House team.</p><p>David and Edna Tevet, former owners of Ollie&#8217;s: An American Restaurant in Edwardsville, were inspired to start the Dinner for Kids program in 2011 after learning that more than 10,000 Luzerne County children live with food insecurity.</p><p>The Tevets started the program by delivering six free meals a week to 40 Wyoming Valley West School District students. In 2016, Misericordia University&#8217;s social work students and the Campus Ministry teamed up with Metz Culinary Management to bring the program to the Dallas School District. Metz Culinary Management prepares the meals on campus.</p><p>The Tevets&#8217; efforts have expanded to include students in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District.</p><p>The Dinners for Kids Program provides six meals every week for approximately 143 children, delivering more than 43,000 meals annually. The youngsters are most often referred to the program by social workers and educators.</p><style>
