WYOMING &#8212; Wyoming Area finally broke through in the District 2 boys soccer playoffs.Eliminated in their first game the previous five seasons, the Warriors used three first-half goals from senior Luke Coolbaugh to defeat Western Wayne 5-0 in a District 2 Class 2A quarterfinal game Friday.Wyoming Area (13-4-1) will play at Scranton Prep (13-1) at 3:45 p.m. Monday in the semifinals. Prep defeated Holy Redeemer 1-0.Coolbaugh scored Wyoming Area&#8217;s first two goals about two minutes apart and just before the midway point of the first half. He dribbled through the left side of the penalty area and connected on a grounder at 24:58 and grounded in another shot from about 10 yards out at 22:26.Coolbaugh completed his hat trick with just under 16 minutes left until halftime. Western Wayne keeper Gary Geinitz left the goal to clear a loose ball just outside the 18-yard line, but slipped on his approach. That gave Coolbaugh a shot at an empty net.Wyoming Area made it 4-0 at 8:52 of the first half. Kendall Heck sent a corner kick from the right side that appeared too far after deflecting off Geinitz&#8217;s hand to cause any harm. But Riley Gerhardt was able to clip the ball with his left foot and lofted it in.Western Wayne (8-8) came out strongly to start the second half and had a couple opportunities in the initial six minutes. However, the Warriors seized control shortly thereafter.Braidon Kostik capped the scoring with 2:58 remaining off an assist from Dylan Kostik.Wyoming Seminary 6, Riverside 1Wyoming Seminary cruised past Riverside in the quarterfinals of the District 2 Class 2A tournament.Reggie Grayek and Luke Johns each scored twice for the Blue Knights. Thomas Iskra and Cooper Wood each scored once.
