Police: Customer upset over face-mask policy stole items from store

PLAINS TWP. &mdash; A Philadelphia man wanted for failing to appear in Luzerne County Court on allegations he was involved in a shooting at the Sherman Hills Apartment Complex in December 2018 was captured Wednesday morning.
				Zaheem Abdul Smith, 25, also known as &ldquo;Skee,&rdquo; was arrested by U.S. Marshals at a hotel on Bear Creek Boulevard at about 6:30 a.m.
				Court records say Smith accompanied another person when they entered the high rise at the apartment complex and went to the sixth floor on Dec. 10, 2018, when at least three rounds were fired into an apartment striking Shawn Sweet in one of his arms. Two spent rounds passed through a wall into an adjacent apartment where two people slept, court records say.
				Sweet was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
				Additional information from court records provides a timeline:
				&#8226; Dec. 10, 2018: Shawn Sweet suffered a gunshot wound to his arm.
				&#8226; April 4, 2019: Wilkes-Barre police obtained an arrest warrant for Smith from District Judge Thomas Malloy, charging him with felony aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, reckless endangering and defiant trespass.
				&#8226; Oct. 22, 2019: Smith is arrested and arraigned on the warrant. He posted $25,000 bail and is released from the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
				&#8226; Nov. 7, 2019: Smith fails to appear for a preliminary hearing. A bench warrant is issued for his arrest.
				At the time of the shooting, Smith was serving a probation sentence after he pleaded guilty to a robbery charge in Philadelphia County in 2013.
				According to U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane, a probation violation was filed in Philadelphia County Court on Nov. 14, 2019. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested him on Wednesday.
				&ldquo;We place a high priority on fugitive cases in which the use of violence against victims occurs,&rdquo; Pane stated in a news release. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s important to ensure these victims have the ability to face the accused. I commend these fugitive hunters on a safe apprehension in bringing Mr. Smith to justice.&rdquo;
				A search of Luzerne County Court records for the man who accompanied Smith at the time of the shooting resulted in no results.
