WILKES-BARRE &mdash; Political consultant Ed Mitchell on Wednesday said Sen. Kamala Harris improves the Democratic ticket in many ways.
				&ldquo;Sen. Harris improves the ticket by appealing to an entire new voter group &mdash; suburban woman, all woman and especially, woman of color,&rdquo; Mitchell said. &ldquo;Also, she gives coastal balance to ticket &mdash; a more national appeal.&rdquo;
				Former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic candidate for president, named Harris as his running mate on Tuesday.
				&ldquo;From the reaction I&rsquo;m seeing today in editorials, social media, cable TV, and among party leaders, it appears Biden nailed it with this choice,&rdquo; Mitchell said. &ldquo;There was no one better.&rdquo;
				Mitchell said Biden having served as Vice President, knows the job.
				&ldquo;He wanted someone ready to be President, if need be,&rdquo; Mitchell said. &ldquo;By age, education and personal qualities as a caring spouse and mother, Kamala Harris checks all the boxes.&rdquo;
				Gov. Tom Wolf agreed with Mitchell&rsquo;s assessment.
				&ldquo;Joe Biden&rsquo;s selection of Kamala Harris to be his running mate marks an extraordinary and long overdue moment in our country&rsquo;s history,&rdquo; Wolf said. &ldquo;Kamala is a remarkable leader who has championed working families and stood up to corporate special interests for her entire career. She has always worked to lift up the middle class by fighting for quality affordable health care, better wages for workers, and more educational opportunities for our children.&rdquo;
				Wolf said he believes Harris and Biden have what it takes to defeat President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
				&ldquo;And then we can finally begin the long journey of putting our country back on track,&rdquo; Wolf said.
				Former U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta of Hazleton, a longtime supporter of Trump, sees the Harris selection in a different light.
				&ldquo;She is not good for Pennsylvania, not good for workers, not good for the rule of law &mdash; not good at all,&rdquo; Barletta said.
				U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-Moosic: &ldquo;Kamala Harris is a strong, courageous advocate for the hardworking people of this country. In the Senate, she&rsquo;s been at the forefront of the fight to support workers and families amid this pandemic, and her work on the Intelligence Committee has made her highly equipped to help a Biden administration respond to the global threats we face.
				&ldquo;She is going to make a great partner to Joe Biden as they work together to make our nation and its people even stronger.&rdquo;
				U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Dallas: &ldquo;Joe Biden has once again completely caved to the extreme left-wing of the Democratic Party. Kamala Harris was rated the most liberal U.S. senator in 2019, which is quite the accomplishment when you consider she is competing against the likes of Bernie Sanders.
				&ldquo;Harris is all-in on the Green New Deal, was the first to raise her hands in the debates for giving taxpayer-funded health care to illegal immigrants and is completely against any form of border security.
				&ldquo;She also stated that all private insurance should be done away with and we should have a full government takeover of health care. Harris completely empathized with the rioters on the streets and helped to raise money to help those arrested get bail so they could go out and cause more destruction in our communities.
				&ldquo;Joe Biden chose who the radical left wanted him to choose. Fortunately, Biden is giving the American people a clear sign of what kind of President he would be &mdash; radical left.
				&ldquo;The Biden-Harris ticket has as much in common with Scranton and Northeastern Pennsylvania as I do with San Francisco.&rdquo;
				U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Lehigh Valley: &ldquo;Vice President Pence is a thoughtful and hardworking public servant. When you look at the policy objectives and records of President Trump and Vice President Pence against those of Vice President Biden and Sen. Harris, the choice is clear. I look forward to continuing to work with President Trump and Vice President Pence.&rdquo;
				U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Scranton: &ldquo;Sen. Kamala Harris will be an excellent Vice President. In the Senate, she&rsquo;s been a leader on efforts to help working families make ends meet and reform policing in America. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, she&rsquo;s held the Trump Administration accountable. I know she will fight for Pennsylvania families and jobs as Vice President.&rdquo;

Harris reaction: Dems love her; GOP not so much
