WILKES-BARRE &mdash; In an effort to prevent illegal dumping, the city expanded the list of yard waste and added tires and small appliances to the items residents can drop off at the Department of Public Works yard.
				Mayor George Brown on Tuesday said the additions to the regular curbside pickup enable residents to properly dispose of unwanted items.
				Proof of residency, such as a drivers license, is required for the drop off and to ensure the items are acceptable. Residents should report to the dispatch office upon arriving at the DPW yard at 3 Conyngham Ave. Municipal waste and commercial recyclables and waste will not be accepted. 				The city will accept car, SUV and truck tires and small household appliances and electronics, such as blenders, toasters, coffee makers, alarm clocks, vacuums, bicycles, computers, TVs. Refrigerators, stoves, and other large appliances will not be accepted.
				Accepted yard waste items are:
				&#8226; Leaf waste.
				&#8226; Grass clippings.
				&#8226; Sod.
				&#8226; Garden residue.
				&#8226; Garden waste.
				&#8226; Wood waste such as branches less than 6 inches in diameter.
				The yard waste must be in bins or paper bags.
				Accepted recyclables are:
				&#8226; 1-7 plastics.
				&#8226; Aluminum cans.
				&#8226; Aluminum foil.
				&#8226; Cardboard.
				&#8226; Cereal boxes.
				&#8226; Color/white paper.
				&#8226; Detergent bottles.
				&#8226; Empty aerosol cans.
				&#8226; File folders.
				&#8226; Glass jars and bottles.
				&#8226; Hard and soft cover books.
				&#8226; Juice and milk cartons.
				&#8226; Junk mail.
				All items must be clean and free of food debris. Plastic grocery, storage and garbage bags are not recyclable. 				The hours for dropoffs are:
				6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from Aug. 19 to Sept. 4.
				7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday starting Sept. 8.
				Saturday hours are from 6 a.m. to noon. But they are subject to change and residents should call ahead to confirm availability.
