 John Levi Schoonover II, 81, of Cherokee Road, Cherokee Village, Ark., &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 formerly of Towanda, died Friday at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Cherokee &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 VillageBorn in Lattimer Mines, July 23, 1911, he was the son of the late
Charles and Edith Schoonover. He moved to West Pittston at an early age and
was graduated in 1929 from West Pittston High School. He was employed for
several years by the local newspaper and also worked in the anthracite coal
industry. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. After World War II, he moved
to Towanda and was employed by GTE Sylvania from 1948, retiring in 1976. While
in Towanda, he was an active member and past president of the Towanda Country
Club and of Christ Episcopal Church, where he served as Senior and Junior
Warden. He was a member of Union Masonic Lodge No. 108, F.&amp; A.M., Towanda; and
the Towanda Elks Lodge No. 2191. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Nelda Rowe, in 1981. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are his wife, Marguerite (Patty); son, John L. III, Towanda; two
grandchildren; brother, William, West Pittston. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Memorial services were held in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Cherokee
Village. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment was at the convenience of the family in Oak Hill Cemetery,
Hanover Township. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the
Towanda Public Library, 104 Main St., Towanda, 18848; or to the American
Cancer Society, Bradford Unit, 413 S. Main St., Athens, 18810.
