David Shipula announces for state rep post &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 David Shipula has announced he will be a Republican candidate for the 119th
district seat of the state House of RepresentativesThe district includes the
boroughs of Courtdale, Edwardsville, Larksville, Luzerne, Plymouth, Sugar
Notch, Swoyersville and Warrior Run; the city of Nanticoke; the townships of
Newport, Plymouth, and Slocum and part of Hanover Township. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shipula, 38, is a lifelong resident of Hanover Township and has been a
member of the Hanover Area School Board since 1985 and president of the board
for the past four years. He has served as vice president and legislative
chairman of the board and as its alternate representative to the Wilkes-Barre
Area Vocational Technical School Board. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I am convinced that the voters of the 119th District are ready for a
change. They want a representative who will listen to their concerns" Shipula
said. "There are clearly some very important issues on the minds of the voters
in the district: education, infrastructure repair, unemployment and crime. I
am committed to help solve these issues and to represent the views of all the
citizens in the 119th District." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The 119th district is represented by state Rep. Stanley Jarolin,
D-Nanticoke. State representatives serve two-year terms and are paid $47,000
per year. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Shipula attended Hanover Area schools before graduating from Staunton
Military Academy, Staunton, Va., and from King's College with a degree in
sociology. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Shipula is vice president of the Malt Beverage Distributors Association of
Pennsylvania, a member of the Northeast Highway Safety Program, a former
member of the Pennsylvania Liquor Board Responsible Alcohol Management Program
advisory panel, a director of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association
Suburban Forum, chairman of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association Policy
Committee and past chairman of the Hanover Township Ambulance Drive. He is
also active in the St. Nick's-St. Mary's Biddy Basketball League. He is a
member of Saint Vladimir's Church, Edwardsville. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Shipula, owner of a beer distributorship in Wilkes-Barre, resides in the
Lyndwood section of Hanover Township with his wife, the former Sharon Gillman,
of Lee Park, Hanover Township and their children Alexis, David and Alyssa. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
