Phillips announcing running mate Thursday &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Republican county commissioner may select a former basketball coach to
create the GOP's teamWILKES-BARRE -- Like the prize behind the curtain, the
mystery running mate of Luzerne County Commissioner Jim Phillips will be
unveiled Thursday at the Ramada Hotel. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; "I want to be in the majority again," Phillips said Tuesday of his pending
announcement. "I will have somebody that I believe will be able to win." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Phillips, a Republican, is seeking his fourth consecutive term in office. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Times Leader reported late last month that Phillips was leaning toward
Ed Donohue, a former King's College basketball coach who ran unsuccessfully
for Wilkes-Barre mayor against Lee Namey in 1987. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Phillips, 62, of Forty Fort, first took office in 1984 and has sat as a
minority commissioner since 1988, when Frank Trinisewski switched from
Republican to Democrat. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Phillips has remained silent about the identity of his running mate. If
successful in the May primary, the ticket would challenge Democratic
incumbents Frank Crossin and Rose Tucker. The top three vote getters in the
general elections become commissioners. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The commissioners race is one of several county battles slated next spring.
