'School' set for opening in Bloomsburg &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble is set to feature love and laughs in the &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Moliere comedy ``The School for Wives'' at the Alvina Krause Theatre in &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 BloomsburgFrom February 3-25 this classic by the great 17th century French
playwright will be presented in a modern translation by Richard Wilbur that
the New York Times called "funny, blithe and totally enchanting." In the BTE
production, the action has been updated to the early 1930s. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In this story, Arnolphe is a rich older man who has groomed young Agnes to
become the perfect wife. Fearing unfaithfulness above all else, Arnolphe
becomes the perfect fool instead as his plans fall apart when the dashing
Horace threatens to take away his beloved Agnes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In a plot full of twists and turns, Arnolphe unwittingly helps Horace woo
Agnes in the play, an evening of classic comic farce. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Staging "The School For Wives" will be guest director Joan Schirle. As
artistic director and founding member of the 18-year-old Dell'Arte Players
Company of Blue Lake, Calif., Schirle brings her expertise in the
centuries-old comic acting style, Commedia dell'arte, to a play that is a
perfect match for her talents. In addition to directing, Schirle is an
experienced teacher, playwright and actor who has toured internationally with
Dell'Arte. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In the role of Arnolphe, Ensemble member David Moreland will mark his
return to BTE after a 19-month sabbatical that saw him keeping very busy on
stages in the Philadelphia area. Moreland's last role at BTE was in the comedy
"The Play's the Thing" last March. BTE member Sharon Pabst will portray
Arnolphe's beloved Agnes, with the young rival Horace being portrayed by guest
actor Eric Beatty in his BTE debut. Beatty, of Bethlehem, PA, studied movement
theater in~ Paris and is a former member of the internationally known
performing group Mummenschanz. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Other Ensemble members in the cast are Laurie McCants and James Goode as
the bumbling servants Georgette and Alain, with ~Whit MacLaughlin as
Arnolphe's friend Chrysalde. Goode will also portray Horace's father Enrique. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Guest ~actor Peter Brown appears in his third BTE show this season in the
roles of Oronte and the notary. Included in the cast are two community actors
-- Sara Lerch of Elyshurg and Darrin Bodner of Hazleton, who will appear as
various townspeople, street vendors and nuns. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Two designers return to BTE for "The School for Wives." They are: BTE
Affiliated Artist Richard Latta, lighting and April Bevans, costumes. For
scenic designer Wendy Ponte, it is her first assignment for BTE; however,
Ponte's other design credits include The Late Show with David Letterman, Cyndi
Lauper's Japan Tour for The American Music Awards, and NBC's Dateline. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The School For Wives will open on Feb. 3, and regular performances will
continue Thursday-Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons until Feb. 25. There
are also two reduced-priced "Sneak Previews," scheduled on Wednesday, Feb. 1
at 7 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Single tickets are now on sale and are priced at $16.50 for regular
performances; $10 for senior citizens and students. Tickets for the "Sneak
Previews" are $5. All performances will be held at the Alvina Krause Theatre,
226 Center St., Bloomsburg. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
