WILKES-BARRE -- Apparently, someone wasn't content to leave the driving to
Martz on Wednesday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Instead of waiting for a Martz Trailways bus to leave for New York City
from Public Square at 7:30 a.m., the thief hopped into the bus as it was
undergoing preparation at the company's Old River Road lot. The culprit then
drove off and eventually abandoned the bus at the parking lot of a
Wilkes-Barre tavern. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; That bus thief wasn't the only person partial to large, highly visible
vehicles. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Burglars Tuesday broke into the Pittston Area Middle School and stole a
1978 Dodge pickup with a Pittston Area School District banner emblazoned on
the doors, Hughestown police said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 They broke some windows and glass partitions inside the building, turned
over some sewing machines and then headed for a garage area attached to the
school, said Hughestown Police Chief George DeLucia. From the garage, the
thieves put a weed cutter and chainsaw into a school district truck and drove
away. DeLucia expects the vehicle to turn up sometime soon. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "They didn't take anything out of the school per se. The Weed Whacker and
the chainsaw were taken from the garage, and the truck is missing," he said.
"It's just a matter of time before we find out where they dumped it." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 While Hughestown police and the Pittston Area School District are still
looking for the pickup, police tracked down the Martz bus. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The thief drove the bus several blocks from the Old River Road lot and left
the vehicle in a tavern's parking lot. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A driver on his way to work couldn't help but notice the massive vehicle in
the lot of McCabe's Barney Inn on the corner of Horton and Barney streets in
Wilkes-Barre, said Harold Pleiscott, executive vice president of Martz
Trailways. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Martz officials did not provide the name of the driver. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The bus was open at the time of the theft, about 3 a.m., because it was
being washed and cleaned for the daily commuter trips to New York City, said
Pleiscott. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We have a lot of buses coming and going from the lot because we're open 24
hours," said Pleiscott. About 55 buses were in the lot at the time of the
theft. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The bus was undamaged when police recovered it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Police were unable to provide information regarding possible suspects. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lilian and Joseph McCabe, owners of the Barney Inn, said they were unaware
that a bus had been stolen and abandoned near their tavern. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
