This is an important week here in the Back Mountain. Two of the summer's
very special events are scheduled for this weekend: The Back Mountain Library &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Auction and Misericordia's Theater-on-the-Green* * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The 50th Annual Back Mountain Memorial Library Auction will begin at 6 p.m.
this evening and close at 11 p.m. On Friday the hours are 6 p.m. to midnight;
Saturday, July 13, 4 p.m. to midnight; Sunday, July 14 from 4 p.m. until
everything is sold. The auction contributes between and of the library's total
operating budget, and it's a tremendous amount of fun, too. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A special 50th anniversary ceremony will be held at 9 p.m. on Friday, July
12. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The very same weekend Theater-on-the-Green at College Misericordia will be
presenting Shakespeare's "A Midsummer night's Dream." The play is performed
outdoors beginning at 8 p.m. on July 12-14. Ticket prices start at $4 for lawn

 The Monroe Township Community Association is holding a Craft and Flea
Market beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the old Beaumont High
School in Beaumont. There is still an opportunity for vendors to obtain

639-5621. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Another flea market, this one sponsored by the Mountain Grange #567 of
Carverton, will be held on Saturday, July 13. It's at the Grange Hall, 1632
Eighth Street in Carverton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Daddow-Isaac American Legion Post will have their regular meeting at
the Post Home at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kunkle Fire Company will hold its annual chicken barbecue at the Kunkle
Community Hall from 4 until 7 p.m. next Saturday, July 20. Tickets are $6 for
adults and $3 for children under ten. You can get tickets at the door or from
any fire or ambulance personnel. Beginning at 11 a.m. chicken halves will be
sold at the barbecue pit for $3. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 The Dallas Lions Club made their annual donation to the Back Mountain
Library. They aid the Large-Print Book Section and Audio Tapes for the
Visually Impaired. The Lions will be participating in the library auction this
weekend, too. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kunkle United Methodist Church is holding Vacation Bible School the week of
July 22. Sessions are 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. All children are
welcome to attend this free bible school. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Regular business continues at the library, even with all the auction
planning. Three new suspense novels that make great summer reading are:
"Critical Judgment," by Michael Palmer, "Cause of Death," by Patricia Cornwall
and "Exclusive," by Sandra Brown. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 After all that's going on this weekend there are still more Back Mountain
events to look forward to later this summer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Arts at Hayfield is an annual summer festival that is held at Penn State
Wilkes-Barre campus in Lehman. It's scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
Sunday, Aug. 25. The festival includes an arts and crafts show and sale,
activities for children, food of all kinds, music and performances. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wyoming Valley Bicycle Club's Great 100 tour takes place Saturday, August
24. There are rides of 100, 50 or 25 miles. Register before Aug. 5 for $14. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
