 St. Therese advanced to the finals of the District 16 Lower Valley 9-10
Year &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Old Tournament with an 11-10 win over Back Mountain National and a 7-1 win
over Ashley-NewtownGerry McGroarty had two doubles and Drew Eicher tripled and
singled to lead St. Therese over Back Mountain. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Against Ashley-Newtown, Ryan McGavin gave up two hits and struck out nine
to earn the win, and McGroarty singled twice to lead the St. Therese hitting
attack. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 St. Therese will face Hanover today at 5:30 p.m. in the championship game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 GUSHKA TAKES FIRST-HALF HONORS: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Steve Gushka shot a 1-under par to win the A-flight in the PG&amp;W Golf

street stock shop modified, led wire-to-wire. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Scranton's Troy Weisenfluh won the Stock Sportsman Murray's Kawasaki Feature

 One of the top small college basketball recruits in the east, Henry
Condron, of Yonkers, N.Y., has chosen the University of Scranton to continue
his academic and athletic careers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For Iona Prep High School, the 6-foot-4-inch forward averaged 18 points,
nine rebounds and four assists a game and earned team MVP honors his senior
season. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Condron will major in business at Scranton. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 TOUGHEST SCHEDULE YET FOR LJC: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lackawanna Junior College will face its toughest football schedule yet as
three of its 10 opponents are highly ranked nationally going into this season. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Falcons will face second-ranked Georgia Military Sept. 28 in Quantico,
Va., and will travel to 12th-ranked Nassau, N.Y., and fifth-ranked Middle
Georgia the final two weeks of the regular season. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "This is the most difficult schedule we've ever had," said third-year head
coach Mark Duda. "We've upgraded it enormously. We've made it stronger in
every respect." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Georgia Military and Middle Georgia won bowl games last season, and Nassau
participated in the junior college playoffs. The three schools combined for 29
wins last season. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
