NBC's mistakes with games were olympian, say readers &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The following are responses to the Newstalk question from Tuesday's edition
of &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Times Leader. The question asked readers what they thought of NBC-TV's
coverage of the OlympicsI think NBC's coverage was terrible. The worst in
many, many years. Too many Enberg Moments. Too much emphasis on the lives of
some of the stars, instead of showing Olympic events, including other
countries other than American athletes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The doctors at NBC cured my Olympic fever in about three days, and I think
I'm for here ever after cured. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I didn't like NBC's coverage of the Olympic coverage, either. I thought the
commentators talked too much. I thought they showed too much personal stories
of all the people involved. I didn't think they showed enough of all the other
events going on. The other thing was they didn't show anyone but Americans.
There were a lot of other people at the games and I thought they deserved some
credit, too. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I believe exactly what Scott Wasser commented on. He just seemed to pick my
thoughts completely. Love it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I really enjoyed the Olympics. I think we should be so proud winning 101
medals. If Scott Wasser didn't enjoy them, don't watch. I think we should be
so proud of the young girls, especially the gymnasts. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I agree with Scott Wasser in that we saw too much swimming and gymnastics
during the coverage of the Olympics. Every other sport was abbreviated and not
given good coverage. We did enjoy the equestrian show, but that was brief. We
saw more reruns and were disappointed with NBC's coverage. We usually watch
NBC. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The thing that annoyed me the most about NBC's coverage of the Olympics,
was that they were trying to package this as the American Olympics. While the
Olympics were held in America, I do believe there were 196 other countries and
I liked to know about their athletes. But I guess that wouldn't bother Scott
Wasser since he wrote some fairly racist remarks about what's that stuff with
Chinese names beginning with X. I guess he thinks that's funny, but people
from other places don't have names like Scott, and it's OK! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If they had cut all those numerous sound bites and moments of everyone's
training background, personal life and tragedy, we could have seen some really
great events, like great Indonesian badminton or the Southeast Asian teams of
table tennis. Anything that didn't have an American. Are we that insecure?
Wasn't this a 197-country event anyway? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 First, let me congratulate Atlanta for bringing the Olympics to the city
and doing a stupendous job. Secondly, I think the coverage was very good,
albeit, there could have been longer coverage for other events. However, in
defense of NBC, I feel even if they had done 24-hour coverage every day they
wouldn't have been able to cover every event in its entirety as Mr. Scott
Wasser suggests. Maybe for the next Olympics, the network could take a poll
for what events they want to see. Finally, I think we should be grateful to
Billy Payne for giving us the opportunity for being part of such a monumental
event. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Scott Wasser hit the nail in the head, when he said there was too much
coverage on swimming, diving and gymnastics. I was disappointed that I
couldn't see a full woman's softball game, a ping-pong match and the Dream
Team at their best. I did enjoy the coverage on the personal side to these
athletes. They are our heroes, but still human enough to shed tears on defeat.
Some of the stories were repeated too much. I look forward to the Olympic
games every four years. Perhaps, all these comments should be forwarded to the
networks, who cover these events, and the Olympic committees. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I certainly have to agree with Scott Wasser. I quit watching it. I thought
I was watching a soap opera. They almost had me in tears with those fat
stories of the contestants. I like diving, but I saw enough diving too. They
didn't do too good of a job. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I think the coverage was absolutely terrible. First of all, Bob Costas
forgot he was a sports announcer and decided to be a politician. Secondly, a
lot of competition was skipped just so they could show their little special
segments, ignoring what the Olympics are all about and showing the competition
of the Olympics. Third of all, "Smoking" Joe Frazier was right. It was a total
disgrace having Cassius Clay lighting the Olympic torch. Like Joe said, he is
an Olympic champion too. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
