HANOVER TWP. -- At the bottom of an empty 1.7 million gallon sewage
treatment tank, investigators Wednesday searched for the remaining parts of a
man's body that had been recovered there earlier in the week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 State police investigators concentrated on the center of the open-air tank
at the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Authority spokesman Bill Griffith said investigators are searching through
sludge at the bottom of the tank for the left leg and left arm of the
unidentified body. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "They're cleaning up the mechanism inside the tank itself," said Griffith,
"They're cleaning it out so they can get a look." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A Roto- Rooter truck was spotted near the tank, but neither Griffith nor
state police would confirm exactly what the private sewer service was doing at
the scene. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 State police Trooper Joe Lakkis, public information officer for Troop P
barracks in Wyoming, said police have pursued some new missing persons calls
in an attempt to identify the body. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We've had some leads, some missing person (reports) that we're looking
into," he said. "But we have no further developments from yesterday." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A worker at the plant spotted a hand and then a torso in the tank at about
4:45 p.m. Monday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Since then, state police and Hanover Township police have been trying to
identify the male body and find out how it ended up in the tank. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Luzerne County Coroner Dr. George E. Hudock said the body was that of a
male between the ages of 35 and 50. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Griffith said water from the clarifier tank, where the investigation is
focused, has been placed in an adjacent tank. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Emptying the tank has not cost the authority additional funds because the
pool is emptied regularly as part of plant maintenance, Griffith said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Obviously these tanks need maintenance from time to time, and they're
drained just that way," Griffith said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The plant has continued operating at normal capacity, handling about 30
million gallons of sewage each day, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
