WILKES-BARRE -- Police are investigating the possible role that a city bar
might have played in connection with a fatal car accident that killed a
20-year-old college student early Thursday morning. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Police say they believe underage drinking might have contributed to the
death of Michelle Marley of Bertels Lane, Wilkes-Barre. She died in a
single-vehicle accident. A police official said criminal charges might be
pending in the case. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; "The district attorney asked us to investigate this case," said Sgt. Robert
Scott of the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement. "We are focusing on a
Wilkes-Barre area bar that may have served the minors. Charges may be filed." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He would not identify the bar being investigated. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Marley died of severe head injuries when the truck she was riding in,
driven by Michael DePietropaolo, 21, of West Pittston, failed to make a turn
at 2:18 a.m. The truck hopped a curb and glanced off a telephone pole at 171
Scott St. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 DePietropaolo and the other passenger, Marie Kratz, 20, of Barney Street,
were treated and released from Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Mourners have remembered Marley by placing various items at the crash
scene. White and red carnations are stapled to the utility pole and a favorite
soft drink, along with bunches of cut flowers, a hair ribbon, and a bag of
potato chips have been placed at the base of the telephone pole. A drawing of
a heart under two white ribbons, with the word "Sugar" is below the flowers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Twenty-four red, yellow and white flickering candles ring the accident
site. A red candle stands alone on the sidewalk across the street marking a
spot near where Marley's body was placed after she was pronounced dead at the
scene. In front of the candle are broken roses. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Her friends were here until at least 11 a.m. today playing the music she
liked to listen to and reminiscing about her," said Donna Geiger, 42, who
lives behind the accident scene. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "They made a collage of photos of her from high school and her prom. They
all stood in a circle with the lit candles and played the music she liked. It
was very moving. All the neighbors are heartbroken by what happened," Geiger
said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Geiger said that stretch of Scott Street is notorious for accidents. She
said that in the last nine years, the corner has averaged at least two
accidents a year. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A car once hit a pole in the same place, sending the one end through
Geiger's basement window, she said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "This is a terrible turn and now something terrible has happened here,"
Geiger said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Police have not released any information on the blood-alcohol content of
those involved in the accident. A city desk sergeant said it would be "several
days" before such information would be issued. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 City police, the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement and the district
attorney's office are investigating the accident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Attempts to contact the Marley family were not successful Friday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
