WILKES-BARRE -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development issued
a $15,000 grant to the Commission on Economic Opportunity in downtown
Wilkes-Barre. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The commission, which is the lead provider of housing services for the
homeless in Wyoming Valley, relies primarily on state and federal funding. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; "This money will allow them to assist the handicapped and families with
children with counseling and support for the purchase of their first home,"
said U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 CEO executive director Gene Brady said: "Through this program, we have
worked in partnership with private lending institutions to enable people to
become first-time home buyers." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
