PLYMOUTH TWP. -- Investigators had grounds to suspect drug use by two
16-year-olds who committed suicide last September, even though tests have now
shown neither had drugs in his system, Luzerne County District Attorney Peter
Paul Olszewski Jr. said Wednesday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The evidence found at the scene was the evidence found at the scene,"
Olszewski said. "That's why you do testing, to confirm or deny evidence." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shaun Marc Zarcufsky of Plymouth and Stanley J. Szczupski of Jackson
Township died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Their bodies were found in a
wooded area near the West Side Landfill along with two handguns, liquor
bottles, a marijuana pipe and bottles of "White Out," a corrective fluid that
can be inhaled to produce a high. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Olszewski said at the time that alcohol and drugs, possibly heroin, might
have been linked to the deaths. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Information was given to us through interviews about students being
exposed to heroin," Olszewski said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 But toxicological tests have shown no presence of drugs in either of the
victim's bodies. There was evidence of nicotine and alcohol use by Zarcufsky,
but no evidence of either substance in Szczupski's body, according to the
Luzerne County Coroner's Office. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "These results don't surprise me," Olszewski said. "From day one, I've
always said these were two good kids." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Olszewski declined comment when asked if there was evidence the boys had
used drugs on other occasions. But he noted that since the suicides, police
have charged seven people, including three juveniles, with dealing heroin and
other drugs to high school students on the West Side. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Two of the juveniles were students at Wyoming Valley West High School,
where Szczupski and Zarcufsky were juniors. None of the defendants, all
awaiting trial, has been charged with selling drugs to the two suicide
victims. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In a news conference the day after the bodies were found, Olszewski and
other investigators said the boys were good students who might have begun
dabbling with drugs and the occult. Notes, "death metal" music tapes and other
evidence of an interest in the occult were found near the bodies. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 On Tuesday, the parents of the boys criticized media accounts based on
interviews with investigators, charging they were sensationalistic. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Olszewski said he and other investigators were only discussing their
evidence. Criticism from the parents and Wyoming Valley West students and
administrators was directed at the media, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "What we talked about was the physical evidence. They were good kids and
the investigation has never changed that." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
