HUMORIST, COUNSELOR GIVES MONEY ADVICE: Money In Motion, a locally produced
television program to teach people what money is, what it can do, how to
accumulate it and where you might invest it, will air at 1 p.m. Feb. 5 on FOX &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 38/WOLF TVThe program features Jack Smoak, a registered investment
counselor and humorist, who served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years, retiring in
1975. While in South Vietnam, he formed an entertainment group that toured
"danger zones" considered unsafe for normal USO troops. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; But, his entertainment career goes back to age 12, when he was declared
"the most colorful salesman in the nation." The New York Herald Tribune gave
him the title after he dyed his hair green to match the front page of the St.
Petersburg, Fla. Evening Independent where he was trying to make a dollar as a
newsboy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 ADVICE FOR PRUDENTIAL PACKET RECIPIENTS: State Insurance Commissioner Linda
S. Kaiser urges the nearly 1.2 million Pennsylvanians who have or will receive
remediation packets from Prudential Insurance Company of America to carefully
review the information. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The remediation plan is the result of the Insurance Department's market
conduct exam of Prudential which resulted in a $1.5 million fine last year. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The state examiners found the company failed to comply with Pennsylvania
law in numerous areas, including issuance of new policies funded in whole or
part by an existing policy without the knowledge of the policyholder (a
practice known as "churning"). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Policyholders who feel they have been subjected to an illegal practices
will be allowed to select a method of resolving their complaint. Those methods
include the return of premium and interest or the restoration of prior
policies. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Policyholders have until June 1 to notify Prudential of their request for

 CREDIT ADVICE FOR DIVORCED PERSONS: Going through a divorce or separation
is hard enough emotionally. It also can be a devastating financial experience.
Call for Action Inc., a non-profit consumer assistance group, has a free
brochure, "Divorce &amp; Credit: Be Sure You Know the Rules of the Game." It
spells out the basic steps to follow to protect -- or restore -- your good
credit. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Among its suggestions: Find out where your credit stands by getting copies
of your credit reports mailed to you; establish your credit independently as
soon as possible, even having a relative or friend co-sign your credit
application if necessary; although often touted as an "easy way out" of credit
difficulties, view a declaration of bankruptcy only as a last resort. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 BINKY PACIFIERS RECALLED: About 13,000 Binky Newborn Orthodontic Pacifiers
present a potential danger to infants and have been recalled. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The $1 pacifiers were sold nationwide at Target and other retail stores
between August 1994 and August 1995. The pacifiers' nipples can detach from
their plastic shields, "presenting a choking hazard to children," said the
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in its recall notice. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The manufacturer, Binky-Griptight Inc., has received six complaints of the
pacifiers separating, although no injuries have been reported. The orthodontic
pacifiers affected by the recall, sold individually or in packs of two, are
identified as item numbers 2115, 3085, 3086 and 3087. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Consumers should return the pacifiers to the store where they were

 BABY BUZZ STRETCH MOBILES RECALLED: More than 26,000 Baby Buzz stretch
mobiles for cribs and playpens have been recalled because they present a
strangulation risk to infants. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The mobiles consist of four 1 1/2-inch diameter plastic balls and plastic
animal figures strung on a piece of elastic. They sold for about $1 nationwide
at discount stores between December 1995 and December 1996. They were packaged
in a clear plastic bag labeled "Baby Buzz Baby Stretch Mobile." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Consumers should return the toys to the store where they were purchased.
