The District 2 Class 2A individual wrestling championship will take place on Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township.

Tickets were sold by participating schools to comply with current local and state capacity restrictions for indoor facilities. No tickets will be sold at the arena box office.

Here’s a look at the weight classes.

There will be a new champion with Wyoming Area’s Jaden Pepe moving to 113 pounds. Fellow Warrior John Chiampi is the only WVC wrestler in the bracket, which has the fewest entrants with six.

Should fourth-seeded Chiampi win his opener, he will face top-seeded Cole Henry of Lackawanna Trail. Henry, a junior, made it to the semifinals in 2019 before finishing fifth. Western Wayne freshman Vinny Tomasetti is seeded second.

Blue Ridge’s Memphis Collins is seeded third. The sophomore is the only returning place winner, having finished sixth a year ago.

If the seedings play out, the finals could be a great matchup. Wyoming Area’s Jaden Pepe, the top seed, won the 106-pound division in 2020 and finished third in the state. Second-seeded Tristyn Brodie of Honesdale won the 113-pound division in Class 3A last year. The Hornets moved down a class for 2020-21.

Third-seeded Kameron Sheffer is the only other returning place winner. The Blue Ridge sophomore finished sixth at 120 pounds. Defending champ Deegan Ross of Lackawanna Trail is now wrestling at 132.

Top-seeded Max Bluhm of Lackawanna Trail finished third at 106 in 2020. His only loss this season was a 3-2 decision to Blue Ridge freshman Jackson Maby, who is seeded second and undefeated. Third-seeded Drew Howell of Honesdale placed third in the 2019 Class 3A tournament at 113 pounds.

Lake-Lehman’s Brandon Ritinski is seeded fourth and placed fifth last year in the weight class. He opens with Montrose’s Nick Harder, who is seeded fifth and was fourth at 106 in 2020.

Lackawanna Trail’s Ethan Lee won the title last season, but has jumped up a weight division.

Lackawanna Trail’s Ethan Lee is the top seed and already as a district title under his belt, having won at 120 last year. Hanover Area’s Cael Davis, seeded second, finished second at 113.

Three other place winners from last year are the other top seeds: No. 3 Dylan Geertgens of Montrose, third at 126; No. 4 Nate Koch of Western Wayne, third at 120; and No. 5 Jake Gizenski of Lake-Lehman, fourth at 126.

Defending champion Dave Evans of Tunkhannock has graduated.

Lackawanna Trail’s Deegan Ross won the 113-pound title in 2020 and is the top seed. Lake-Lehman’s Mason Konigus is seeded second. The junior was fifth at 113 in 2020, but didn’t face Ross in the bracket.

Wyoming Area’s Kyle Emsley, a senior, is the third seed and won the bronze last year. Fourth-seeded sophomore Nick Arcadipane of Western Wayne is making his district debut.

Other place winners back are No. 5 Brandon Soules of Montrose, who was fourth at 120, and No. 6 TJ Martin of Honesdale, who was sixth at 106 in Class 3A.

Lackawanna Trail’s Michael Bluhm won the division last year. He’s now at 145.

Lake-Lehman’s Zach Stuart captured the division in 2020. He’s moved to 145.

A pair of district runner-ups have the top-two seeds. Top-seeded Antonio D’Appollinio of Scranton Prep was second at 132, while second-seeded Robbie Schneider of Trail was second at 126.

Lake-Lehman senior Hunter Burke is seeded third and won silver medals as a freshman and sophomore. Fourth-seeded Dominic Rylka of Honesdale didn’t qualify last year.

Fifth seed Caleb Barletta of Western Wayne was sixth at 126 in 2020. Sixth seed James Bixby of Montrose was fourth at 113.

A clash between defending district champs is possible if the wrestling plays out according to seedings.

Top-seeded Zach Stuart of Lake-Lehman won at 138 last season, while second-seeded Michael Bluhm of Lackawanna Trail won the 132-pound division.

No. 3 Aidan Frields of Hanover Area was fourth last season, unseeded Todd Snyder of Elk Lake was fifth and fifth-seeded Rocco Pizano placed sixth. Western Wayne freshman Jake Leslie is seeded fourth.

Defending champion Gavin D’Amato has graduated.

Western Wayne’s Matthew Leslie is back to defend his title. The senior won gold at 138 as a freshman and was third at 145 as a sophomore.

Lake-Lehman senior Josh Bonomo is seeded second. He finished second at 145 in 2020. Third-seeded Dalten Klinges of Lackawanna Trail was third at 138 last year. Wyoming Area junior Cooper Price is seeded fourth. Price won the Class 3A 106-pound championship while at Coughlin in 2019.

Lake-Lehman senior Nick Zaboski goes for his third consecutive district championship. The top-seeded senior won at 160 last year and at 170 in 2019. He was third at 152 as a freshman.

Lackawanna Trail’s Seth Ross is the second seed and placed third at 145 a year ago.

Berwick’s Trystan English, the third seed, was sixth in the Class 3A 152-pound weight division last year. Western Wayne’s George Lee is the fourth seed and placed fifth in the weight class last year.

The new weight class is dominated by Lackawanna League wrestlers. Lackawanna Trail’s Kody Cresswell is the top seed. He was third at 152 in 2020. Jordan Williams of Blue Ridge garnered the second seed. He was the 170-pound runner-up last year.

Wyoming Area’s Vinny Bowers is the highest-seeded WVC wrestler. The fourth-seeded senior finished fourth at 182 as a sophomore.

Another new weight division with six wrestlers who were place winners in 2020. The list is headed by top-seeded Tim Dailey of Honesdale, who was second in Class 3A 182, and second-seeded Mason Zajac of Lackawanna Trail, who was third at 170.

Berwick freshman Liam Carroll is the highest-seeded WVC wrestler. He’s seeded fifth.

Only six wrestlers are in the new weight division. Wyoming Area’s Connor Wrobleski heads up the field as the top seed. The junior has worked his way up the weight ladder, winning the 138 title as a freshman and the 170 crown as a sophomore.

Lackawanna Trail’s Jonah Houser, the second seed, finished second at 182 last year. Fourth-seeded Zack Wilken of Honesdale is the only other returning place winner. He was sixth in Class 3A at 195 pounds.

Western Wayne’s Jack McAllister won the division last year and has graduated. Another Wildcat assumes the top seed. Junior Thomas Flood finished second at 220 in 2020. Berwick freshman Bruce Hartman is the second seed with a 7-1 record.

Two WVC place winners from last year will square off in the quarterfinals. Third-seeded Ethan Speece of Wyoming Area was fourth in the weight class. Sixth-seeded Jake Mercadante of Hanover Area was fifth at 220.
