WILKES-BARRE- Four men kicked in the door of a Carey Avenue apartment,
demanded money and used weapons to beat a teenager in a drug-related attack
early Friday, police said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The intruders used knives and guns to hit 17-year-old Joshuah Goodwin, who
police said could face drug charges. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Goodwin, who was treated at Mercy Hospital and released, knew his
attackers, said Police Chief William Barrett. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "There is no reason to believe that this was a random act," he said. "It's
very obvious to anyone that it's a drug-related incident." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Barrett said the crime at 260 Carey Ave. resembles the forced entry into a
West Ross Street apartment early Wednesday morning by four men who shot open
the door and terrorized the occupants. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I would see where someone would make a connection," he said. "Right now we
haven't made a connection and I don't believe we will." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Barrett would not say that the West Ross Street intrusion was drug-related,
but he did say it was not random and the investigation is continuing. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Obviously we have some very serious concerns about this type of activity,"
Barrett said of the incidents. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Just before 4 a.m. Friday, one of Goodwin's attackers jumped on him,
covered his face and demanded cash. Goodwin told the men where there was $200.
When he said he didn't have any more money, the men beat him, police said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Quantities of marijuana found in Goodwin's apartment and in a stolen car
recovered later suggest drug dealing rather than personal use, Barrett said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He said 700 grams, or nearly 2 pounds, of marijuana, scales and a large
amount of cash were found in the stolen car spotted by a city police officer
two hours after the beating. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Police said Lamont Twyman of Barney Street was driving the stolen Ford
Probe when he was taken into custody at a Turkey Hill parking lot at
Pennsylvania Avenue and North Street. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The intruders had taken the car keys from Goodwin's living room table and
fled. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The car is owned by a Hazle Avenue man, police said. But Goodwin said he
had purchased the vehicle. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We're trying to establish that connection there," Barrett said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Twyman was charged with one count each of possession of a controlled
substance, possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug
paraphernalia, police said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was arraigned Friday before District Justice Diana Malast and is in the
Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Capt. Robert Mitchell said the investigation continues and detectives hope
to interview individuals about the attack. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "He's not being charged with anything directly involving that incident,"
Mitchell said of Twyman. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The 20-year-old man is also awaiting trial on charges of receiving stolen
property in connection with the theft of about $250,000 and other items from
the safe of the late Wilkes-Barre Township businessman Joseph Elias. The theft
occurred last September at Elias's Diebel Avenue home. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 One longtime Carey Avenue businessman on Friday blamed drugs for problems
in the area. "The neighborhood's not the same," said the man, who did not want
to be identified. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He said people bang on his own door at odd hours but he does not answer
because he fears they are seeking drugs. &amp;
