Revello's offers pizza with pizzazz &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In a restaurant where the types of beer outnumber the types of food on the
menu, the unfamiliar diner has to wonder what is the appeal that can draw a
crowd- and even a line- of all ages, including familiesBut then again,
Revello's, where this anomaly occurs, is one of those staple pizza cafes in
Old Forge. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The restaurant has been operating since 1967, and it has built a solid base
of patrons. How many restaurants do you know that have printed T-shirts,
sweatshirts, hats and an Internet Website? Not to mention, on weekends, a
crowd standing and waiting for a place to eat? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That was the case one recent Saturday night and many others we've
experienced over the years. What packs the people into Revello's is the
quality of a few key items. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Not the paper place mats or the little paper plates. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Not the uniformly mismatched flatware. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Not the fact that pizza is served on plastic cafeteria-style trays. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This is not four-star dining. Pizza is the star at Revello's, along with a
few other things. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Typical of Old Forge-style pizza, the red at Revello's was very good. The
fresh rectangles of dough were crisp but not greasy, topped with a tangy red
sauce and covered with American-style cheese. A slice costs 90 cents. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 You can add pepperoni, sliced meatballs, sausage or hot or sweet peppers.
Sweet peppers, we found, made the excellent red pizza even better. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 On the other hand, the white pizza dusted with powdered rosemary seemed
like a glorified grilled-cheese sandwich. The white cost $1.50 a cut. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Revello's also has heavenly sausage and meatballs- served on separate
platters or with pasta- and high-quality ravioli. The meat ravioli ($6.25),
for example, were tender and filled with coarsely ground beef and parsley. It
was great and a notch or two better than the very good cheese ravioli. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Alas, the spaghetti served one night was overcooked. Gnocchi however, were
succulent and satisfying without being heavy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The red sauce served with all the pastas was zesty and frequently dotted
with cloves. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Revello's also offers tripe and a few sandwiches, including meatball,
sausage and hamburgers. A pizza burger wasn't exceptional, but the meat seemed
to have been prepared in the kitchen rather than prefab, the cheese and sauce
topping was abundant and the bun it was served on was exceptionally fresh. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A salad was meager; iceberg lettuce, a single slice of cucumber, a small
wedge of tomato and a slathering of bottled dressing. A salad with cheese was
extra cloying. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The atmosphere and service at Revello's are as modest as the menu. But
while you can take all night to acclimate to modest tables and booths, you
better catch on quick when a chatter-box waitress asks "We having pizza?"
before you take your coat off. The wait from order to food can be a half hour
or more, certainly on a busy weekend night. Order red pizza as soon as you
catch the attention of a waitress. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And don't come to Revello's with a hankering for such frills as coffee and
dessert. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We don't serve hot beverages," said our waitress, "and the people here eat
pizza for dessert." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 So when in Old Forge, eat pizza. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
