Mainstreaming potentially enriches educational experience of all kids &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This is a response to the letter from Jean Grange regarding mainstreaming
children with special needs (Jan. 25). The purpose of school is to educate and
prepare the student to be a productive and self sufficient member of
societyPublic education prepares the student for the "real world" which
consists of "all types" of people. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; It is very hard to have 20-plus, let alone 30-plus students in a classroom;
and, yes, the teachers do earn every penny of their salary. One must educate
the public, the teachers, and the school boards to the needs of "special
students." The teacher needs both additional and continuing education in order
to be trained to provide the academic and social needs of all students. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The classroom should and must have the support of the special education
team which means additional trained special education support within the
classroom. The teacher and specialist must work as a team. If that means
smaller classrooms and more teachers, then that must be the answer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That is where the school board must be educated as to the cost of educating
all their students. I understand that my comments reflect a perfect world and,
no, Ms. Grange, we do not live in a perfect world. But we must always strive
to reach that plateau and the answer is not to segregate these children. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 These children deserve and are entitled to the best education just as your
"normal" children. School should be a learning process for everybody involved,
all of the children as well as the teachers. Yes, your "normal" children can
learn from the "special needs" children just as the "special needs"
