DURYEA- The Youth Group of Brick United Methodist Church, Duryea, will be
collecting canned goods for the Pittston Meals on Wheels program. The
collection will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The pickup route will include the following streets in Duryea: 200-900
blocks of Foote Avenue; 400-600 blocks of Stephenson Street, and Donnelly,
Meyer, New and Brown streets. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Place donations on the front porch or door step. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Recycling schedule &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Exeter Recycling Coordinator Karen Szwast announces the following recycling
schedule for the month of December: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Glass, Aluminum, and Plastics: Mondays, Dec. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Commingled
recyclables consist of glass, aluminum and plastic. Types of glass collected
are green, brown and clear bottles and jars only. No glass from mirrors or
windows will be accepted. Types of plastic collected are plastic containers
with the numbers 1, 2 or 3 on the bottom of the container in the triangle. The
only exceptions are motor oil and antifreeze containers. These should be
placed in the regular trash. Remove all lids from containers and place them in
the regular trash. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ashes: Wednesdays, Dec. 9, 16, 23 and 30. Ashes are to be placed in
weatherproof open containers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Leaves: Thursdays, today, Dec. 10, 17, 24 and 31 or until the first
snowfall. Leaves are to be placed in plastic bags. Leaves that are left loose
in open containers will not be accepted because they blow off the trucks. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Newspapers: Fridays, Dec. 4, 11, and 18. Tie in bundles or place in brown
grocery bags. No magazines can be accepted. Do not place newspapers in the
yellow recycling containers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Street Department will be closed Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday.
There will not be a newspaper collection on Dec. 25. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If there are any questions call the Street Department between 7 a.m. and 3
p.m., Monday through Friday. Any residents who have not received a recycling
container should call the Street Department. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Taxes due Friday &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Exeter Township Tax Collector Richard Peck reminds all taxpayers that the
face value period on all 1998 Wyoming Area School District property taxes ends
Friday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 After that date until Dec. 15, school property taxes will be collected at
penalty value. After Dec. 15, the tax books will close and be returned to the
Luzerne County Tax Claim Bureau. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The 1998 county/municipal taxes will also be collected at penalty value now
through Dec. 15. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Boy Scouts to salute area women today &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Exploring Division of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council will host
its eighth annual Exploring Salute to Northeastern Pennsylvania Women luncheon
at 12:15 p.m. today at Victoria Inns, Pittston Township. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Judy Rimple of Dallas and Joyce Tressler of Clarks Summit will be honored. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The event recognizes the community contributions and participating
citizenship of all women throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Exploring is the young-adult division of the Boy Scouts of America for
young men and women ages 14-20. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 The Nearly-New Kids Shop, operated as a public service by the United
Methodist Women of the Trucksville United Methodist Church, will hold a
year-end sale on Saturdays, Dec. 5 and 12. All merchandise will be offered for
sale at $2 a bag (paper grocery bag). There is a variety of children's
clothing- size infant through size 16- and jeans, sweatshirts, blouses,
T-shirts, sweaters, shoes, boots, and coats. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The shop, open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, is located in the Memorial
Room (lower level) of the Trucksville United Methodist Church, Church Road.
The shop will close for the holiday season and will reopen at 10 a.m. on Jan.

 All proceeds are used for the many local, national and global mission

 The Wilkes-Barre City Neighborhood Crimewatch Coalition and the
Wilkes-Barre Area School District will sponsor two 911 informational seminars. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The seminars will be held tonight at Meyers High School and Dec. 10 at
Coughlin High School. Both seminars will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lawyers' Division, are sponsoring their annual Reindeer Run for Cancer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This event will be held on Saturday at the Luzerne County Courthouse. The
event will feature both a "Fun Walk" beginning at 10 a.m. and a 3-mile race
through the streets of Wilkes-Barre at 10:30 a.m. Registration for both the
walk and race will start at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the courthouse. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Following the race, a holiday party will be held with food and
refreshments. Santa Claus will also visit. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
