Elmer K. Armstrong &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Elmer K. Armstrong, formerly of Parke Street, West Pittston, died Sunday, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; December 27, 1998, in Wesley Village Retirement CenterBorn Aug. 22, 1910,
in Yatesville, he was the son of the late William and Minnie Pointon
Armstrong. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He graduated from West Pittston High School in 1929. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, West Pittston, where
he served as a Church Elder and on the Board of Trustees. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He began his employment in 1940 as a custodian of West Pittston High
School. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In 1943 Elmer was called to serve his country for two and one half years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the U.S.S.
Sanctuary as a Pharmacist Mate. Completing his tour of duty, he returned to
his former position. In 1958 he was elevated to the position of head custodian
and in 1966 he was named head custodian of the newly formed Wyoming Area
School District. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 His intense interest in young people found him involved in Youth Center and
other activities above and beyond the call of duty. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In addition to his work Elmer is remembered as a champion tennis player.
From 1936 to 1940 he was Doubles Champion of Luzerne County and runner-up in
the Singles. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Beatrice Weaver, who
died July 23, 1954; his second wife, the former Dorothy Hewitt, who died April
13, 1980; brother, William Armstrong; and sister, Hazel Sharps. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are his daughters, Judith Argenio and Debra Hensley; and
grandchildren, Joseph Argenio, Jr.; Edward Hensley, Jr.; and Erik Hensley. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednes
