O-line woes continue to plague Penn State

The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the the agency: &#8220;any inspection is a &#8216;snapshot&#8217; of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.&#8221; The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state&#8217;s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.Atami Sushi, 100 Old Lackawanna Trail, Clarks Trail, Clarks Summit, Sept 24. Change of owner inspection; in compliance. Violations: An employee&#8217;s open beverage container was observed on shelf above bain marie. The beverage was discarded during this inspection. Observed a plastic container of lemon wedges being stored in the same ice that is used for customers&#8217; drinks. The lemon wedges were removed during this inspection. Observed in-use knives and/or cleavers stored between table edges or between tables, an area not easily cleanable and sanitized. The knives were removed during this inspection. Sashimi is served raw or under cooked to the customer&#8217;s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer. An advisory was posted during this inspection. Hood filters have an accumulation of grease. A sticker on the hood indicated that the company is scheduled to clean the hoods on Oct. 2, 2015. Regular inspection; in compliance.Gourmet Restaurant, 645 Northern Boulevard, P.O. Box 453, Chinchilla, Sept. 24. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food facility has an employee that has taken food safety training program; however, the food safety program was not an ANSI/CFP accredited Certified Food Manager program. Manager completed the Serv Safe Certificate of Achievement online on Sept. 17, 2015. A list of providers for the correct course was left with the person in charge. Proof of registration for a course to be provided to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture regional office via fax or e-mail (information provided) within 10 days. Food employee observed in kitchen area, wearing bracelets on arms. Observed cardboard boxes of food stored directly on the floor in the walk-in freezer area, rather than 6 inches off the floor as required. Non-food contact surfaces (box fan) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dust.Angie&#8217;s Pizza, 834 Main St., Dickson City, Sept. 25. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Working container in kitchen area, used for storing a chemical taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. The chemical was identified and labeled during this inspection. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Owner has taken a Serv Safe class and is scheduled to take the exam this Tuesday at the University of Scranton. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Working containers in kitchen area, used for storing chemicals taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Main St., Carbondale, Sept 28. Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violations: Pre-packaged foods, deli meat sandwiches and individual meals are not labeled properly with a complete ingredient statement, to clearly indicate any &#8220;Big 8&#8221; allergen ingredients and/or the allergen warning statement. Violations: Observed consumer self-service display of celery without sneeze guards or other effective protection. A dome was placed over the tray of celery. Old food residue on the blade and frame of the meat slicer; the slicer was disassembled and cleaned. Cover missing from the floor drain in the laundry room.Dunkin Donuts #3628, 40 S. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Deflector plate of ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have black slime residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Person in charge emptied ice machine and cleaned during this inspection.Jessup Pizza, 1019 Constitution Ave., Jessup, Oct. 01. Main St., Taylor, Oct 01. Change of owner inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed a bag of potatoes stored directly on the floor in kitchen area, rather than 6 inches off the floor as required. Hood filters have an accumulation of grease and static dust. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. No sign or poster posted at the hand wash sinks in the rest room areas to remind food employees to wash their hands. Signs were posted during this inspection. The sides of the fryers have an accumulation of grease.Old Country Buffet #253, 500 Commerce Boulevard, Dickson City, Oct. 01. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Back filters at cooking equipment have an accumulation of grease. Non-food contact surfaces (fan guards in dessert and salad walk-in coolers and walk-in freezer) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Non-food contact surfaces (housing unit of table mixer in bakery area) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of old food residue. Lights are not shielded or shatter proof over the ware-wash area. The kitchen manager stated that new shields had to be special ordered from their company. Floor underneath cooking equipment in main kitchen has an accumulation of grease and old food residue.Tony B Country Market, 1591 Heart Lake Road, Scott Township, Oct. 01. Violations: Commercially processed, refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food (deli meats/cheeses), located in the deli case, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. All products will be date marked once opened. Reviewed and left PDA handout on date marking. Prepackaged hoagies are not labeled to clearly indicate any &#8220;Big 8&#8221; allergen ingredients and/or the allergen warning statement. Reviewed and left PDA handout on labeling of foods at retail during this inspection. Food facility is using an approved non-public water system, but does not have current laboratory testing results for water potability. Owner to email results to this inspector, information was provided.
