Heavy rain, gusty winds expected into tonight

The Wilkes University Graduate Creative Writing program will host an instant decision open house from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Dr. Harold Cox Hall, 245 S. River Street in Wilkes-Barre.Attendees bringing writing samples can receive an instant admission decision. They will also have the opportunity to learn more about the program from the director and staff. Parking is available in the rear of the Henry Student Center at 84 W. South Street.The Graduate Creative Writing program is offered in two formats. In the low-residency format, students learn online and attend two eight-day residencies each January and June. The new weekender program combines distance learning with the traditional campus experience. Students enrolled in the program will learn online and attend four face-to-face weekend class sessions throughout each six-month semester.Wilkes offers the master of arts and master of fine art degrees in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, playwriting, publishing and documentary filmmaking. Program faculty are working, producing writers who mentor students one-on-one through the process of creating a full-length creative project.In a review process that is unique to Wilkes, students submit their final creative manuscripts to literary agents, publishers or producers for feedback, which is delivered during a private session with the outside reader.Interested open house attendees should register online at www.wilkes.edu/informationsession or by calling the Creative Writing office at 570-408-4547.
