The following are recent Luzerne County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: &#8220;any inspection is a &#8216;snapshot&#8217; of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.&#8221; The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state&#8217;s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.Save-A-Lot, 536 W. Broad St., Hazleton, April 18. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Fresh, repackaged, peeled garlic is displayed at room temperature on retail shelf. Master container states: &#8220;Keep refrigerated.&#8221; Store-seasoned chicken drumsticks offered for retail sale are not labeled for ingredients. Meat room band saw, bin grinder and hand slicer have buildup of old dried food residuals. Equipment was not cleaned/sanitized after prior day&#8217;s use. Assorted cutting knives stored in meat room and in produce prep area storage boxes have buildup of dried food residuals on blades and at blade-to-handle junctions. Persons in charge are not monitoring establishment operation for compliance with food code requirements. Assorted frozen foods are in various states of thaw due to being displayed above load line in bunker freezers. Commercially processed, refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the retail dairy/meat cases, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened, not to exceed seven days. Refrigerated ready-to-eat time/temperature control for safety food repackaged by the food facility, is being date marked with a sell-by, use-by or discard-by date, that was beyond the manufacturer&#8217;s original date. Plastic cutting board in produce prep area has buildup of deep cutting grooves on food contact surfaces. Three-basin sink in meat room has buildup of grime in basins. Meat room and produce department hand-wash sinks have buildup of grime in basins. Floor surface material by floor drain in meat room is deteriorated/crumbling. Rear store room overhead delivery door is open and unscreened. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Violations: Employee observed handling ready-to-eat foods with bare hands. Several knives are stored with blades in crevice between wall and prep counter. Knives with blades in crevice between wall and prep counter have old food residual on blades. Slicer has buildup of old dried food residuals/grime on food contact surfaces. Owner states slicer was not used today. Slicer cleaned/sanitized during inspection. Interior of microwave has buildup of old dried food residuals inside. Pan of macaroni and cheese stored in walk-in cooler has small pieces of foil in product. Product disposed by owner. Food containers are stored on floor in walk-in freezer. Men&#8217;s rest room faucets are not timed to stay active for 15 seconds. Open hole around floor drain by dessert case. Tile is missing. Rear kitchen door is open and unscreened. Violations: Three-compartment sink in deli has buildup of grime in basins. Ceiling tiles are water marked in rear wash room. Florescent light tubes in produce case are not shielded. Violations: Observed pasta being cooled in deep food pans which cannot effect proper cooling. Residual date sticker material observed on cleaned/stacked food pans on rack by three-basin sink. No effective hair restraints worn by all employees engaged in food prep. Violations: Deli employee observed eating deli meats while wearing food service gloves, then resuming food prep. Nut-derived baked items are displayed on same tray as non-nut-derived baked items in retail bakery case. American cheese product is displayed as American cheese in deli case. Roast beef containing isolated soy protein is being displayed as whole muscle roast beef in deli case. Virginia Brand ham is being displayed as Virginia Baked ham in deli case. No consumer advisory posted at fish/shellfish point of sale. Several knives stored in storage box in meat room have buildup of old dried food residual on blades and at blade-to-handle junction. Several chemical spray bottles throughout store are not labeled/not accurately labeled for content. Persons in charge are not monitoring establishment operation for compliance with food code requirements. No thermometers visible in all in-use refrigeration units. Several spatulas in basement bakery have deteriorated/split/missing sections of food contact surfaces. Hand-wash sink in basement bakery has buildup of grime in basin. Several ceiling tiles are missing/out of tracts in produce prep room. Dairy walk-in cooler ceiling and wall are exhibiting blistered/peeling paint. Florescent light tube covers in freezer wall units are missing end caps. Incandescent light bulb in bakery walk-in cooler is not shielded. Evaporator fan guards in several walk-in coolers have buildup of static dust/mold.J&#8217;s Dog House, MFF3, 9 Kopko Dr., Laurel Run, April 19. Opening inspection; in compliance.Lispi&#8217;s Lounge, 587 Main St., Wilkes Barre, April 19. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Soda gun, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Soda gun was cleaned during inspection. Women&#8217;s toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins.Longhorn Steakhouse #5436, Bear Creek Boulevard and Mundy Street, Wilkes Barre, April 19. Violations: The chlorine concentration in the sanitizing solution of the three-bay ware-wash sink in the bar area was 25 parts per million, rather than 50-100 ppm as required. Sink was refilled to appropriate concentration. Interiors of multiple microwaves observed to have food residue and were not clean to sight and touch. Microwaves were cleaned. Observed a buildup of pink residue on edge of chute in the ice machine. Person in charge cleaned chute during inspection. Observed a buildup of dust in the exhaust vent above the mechanical dishwasher. Interior door on one microwave is broken and loose. Needs to be repaired or replaced. Observed debris and spilled single-use articles on the floor under the storage racks in the back area. Observed a buildup of food debris on floor under equipment in kitchen areas. Observed a buildup of foot traffic debris on the floor in the walk-in freezer. Observed a buildup of grime in the drain under the ice machine.Monroe Grocery Inc., 36 N. Broad St., West Hazleton, April 19. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food containers stored on floor in basement. No thermometers visible in all in-use refrigeration units. No proof of certified food handler available. Owner states he did take class but has not received certificate. Proof of certification required within 10 days. Floors in basement have buildup of traffic dirt.Pizza Hut #122212, 179 Susquehanna Blvd., Hazleton, April 19. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Surface coating on some wire shelving units in walk-in cooler is deteriorated/rusting. Fan guards in proofer have buildup of static dust.Balliet&#8217;s Country Corner, 340 N. Hunter Hwy., Drums, April 20. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: A working container of all-purpose cleaner and a wasp spray can were stored on the food preparation table. Observed wet wiping cloths in bucket in ware-wash sink area, not being stored in sanitizer solution. Ice bagged in facility and offered for retail sale is not labeled for point of manufacture. Store-made hoagies and cookies are not labeled for content/ingredients. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Slicer has buildup of old dried food residual on food contact surfaces. Meat slicer was not cleaned from previous day&#8217;s use. Slicer to be cleaned/sanitized prior to next use. No current water quality test results are available for review. No hot water is available in facility. Hot water is 70 degrees F. Working container under manual ware-wash area, used for storing chemicals, taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. The person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Commercially processed, refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the deli station and walk-in freezer, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the self display case, is not being date marked for seven-day use. Back exit door has an approximate 1-inch gap along bottom of the door and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals. Food facility is not removing dead or trapped pests frequently, as evidenced by observed old, decaying rodent in the hot water heater area. Potential rodent harborage areas (old equipment, signs and cardboard) on the exterior of the building perimeter observed along back entrance wall. Observed approximately 40-50 old dried rodent droppings under and around ware-wash sink, ice machine and storage shelving in back storage area. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Proof of enrollment in a certification class or a current certificate for employee employed in this facility required within 10 days.<style>
