Letter to the Editor: Negative ads in U.S. Senate race reflect poorly on both candidates

Man strikes another man who took his beer, police say

<p>WYOMING &#8212; On a hot summer day, there may be no better way to enjoy the company of others by sitting down over a nice bowl of ice cream covered with blueberries.</p><p>With that in mind, the congregation at the Wyoming United Methodist Church held its first blueberry ice cream festival fundraiser on Saturday afternoon at the church located on Wyoming Avenue.</p><p>More than 100 visitors came by to spend some quality time together and help the church, which was decorated with blueberry-themed adornments. Each guest donated four dollars for the event.</p><p>Along with ice cream and blueberries, attendees were able to enjoy grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, wimpies, macaroni salad, home-baked goods and other desserts.</p><p>Church Secretary Audrey Harris, who organized the event, said the church does a few similar fundraisers during the year and the visitors always leave satisfied.</p><p>&#8220;A lot of people rave about our good food and good portions,&#8221; she said.</p><p>The money raised will be used to cover the cost of building upkeep and maintenance, including recent repairs to the church&#8217;s steeple, Harris said.</p><p>Harris and the church&#8217;s finance committee agreed a blueberry and ice cream social would be a great way to bring in some needed money.</p><p>&#8220;Other churches have strawberry or peach festivals. We thought a blueberry ice cream festival would be a great idea,&#8221; she said.</p><p>About 15 volunteers worked the festival.</p><p>&#8220;The most important thing is the fellowship,&#8221; Harris said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a way for people to get together. It&#8217;s for the community.&#8221;</p><p>She thanked the volunteers for their help, including the work they did cleaning up afterward. She also thanked Rev. Harriet Santos and Rev. Jim Wert for their time in attending and meeting with the guests.</p><p>&#8220;They do so much for our members. They are great ministers,&#8221; she said.</p><style>
