<p>Luzerne County will have additional funds to develop its system of care for children and youth experiencing mental health challenges during for the next four years.</p><p>Luzerne and Erie counties have been awarded a four-year federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to improve the quality of mental health services for young people, according to a news release. The two counties will share in the annual award of $850,759.</p><p>According to release, the grants will help the counties engage families and youth in a partnership with public and private resources to design mental health strategies that are effective, build on the strengths of individuals and address each person&#8217;s unique set of needs.</p><p>The Erie-Luzerne System of Care Initiative will bring both counties together to support and encourage one another in the development, expansion and sustainability of mental health care programs for youth, the release continued.</p><p>Youth up to age 21 will be served by the program.</p><p>A primary reason that the two counties have elected to work together is to share information, resources, and ideas on how to maximize federal, state, and county resources, and raise required matching funds, according to the release.</p><style>
