Sunshine expected in the Wyoming Valley as weekend approaches

<p>HAZLETON &#8212; A pursuit with police led to officers seizing a substantial amount of drugs from the suspects&#8217; vehicle.</p><p>Three men are also facing a slew of charges as a result of the pursuit.</p><p>Officers were dispatched at 1:29 a.m. for a report of a fight at the Station 33 Bar on Diamond Avenue. An officer arrived and heard what he believed to be gunshots. Police said that when the officer got out of his vehicle, he was nearly hit by a blue Buick Verano occupied by three men. The officer also reportedly noticed that the driver&#8217;s face was covered with blood.</p><p>The men in the car were later identified as Marquis Alberto DeLeon, 20, of Hazleton; Jose Miguel Peralta, 29, of Huntingdon; and Carlos Miguel Liriano, 19, of West Hazleton. DeLeon was identified as the driver.</p><p>DeLeon allegedly ignored the officer&#8217;s command to stop and hit an occupied vehicle stopped at the light on Wyoming Street and Diamond Avenue. DeLeon then allegedly fled, which prompted the officer to start the pursuit.</p><p>Officers from Hazleton, Butler Township, West Hazleton, and the Pennsylvania State Police assisted in the pursuit. The vehicle allegedly fled at a high rate of speed for several blocks. Police said DeLeon tried to make a turn but lost control of the vehicle and hit three parked vehicles, causing substantial damage to them.</p><p>DeLeon exited the vehicle and allegedly tried to flee, but he was apprehended by an officer. Peralta and Liriano were then apprehended, and all three men were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton via EMS.</p><p>During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly recovered 1,000 bags of heroin, 15 bags of crack cocaine, one ounce marijuana, and approximately $740 cash.</p><p>DeLeon will be charged with three counts each of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and damage to an unattended vehicle, and one count each of damage to attended vehicle, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended license.</p><p>Peralta and Liriano will be charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. They were each flown out of Lehigh Valley Hospital to an area trauma center, and police said a warrant will be issued for their arrest upon their release.</p><style>
