Nuclear plant in Salem Township to conduct drill Tuesday

<p>The Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church, Church and Main Streets, Edwardsville will celebrate its 150th anniversary at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28. The church service will be followed by a social hour luncheon for which reservations are required. Reservations may be made by calling 570-287-4581 and leave a name, number attending, and phone number.</p><p>The Rev. Shawn Walker, formerly of the First Baptist Church of Wilkes Barre and now pastor of Dr. Edwards Memorial, will lead the congregation in praises to God to celebrate the blessings of 150 years.</p><p>Dr. Edwards Memorial is a Community-focused church, a Bible-based church, and a church welcoming all. Children&#8217;s Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m..</p><p>Special music will be presented by Jack Wise, whose father was a former pastor of the church; Betty Carpenter and Morris Walker, members of the church; and the choir. All will be accompanied by Glenn Ryman, organist of Dr. Edwards Church.</p><p>A committee of Mary Ann Stelma, D. Jean Bonn, Pam Cartwright, Roberta Troy and Peter Keller has been working preparing for this special service. They have been collecting memorabilia, setting up posters of pictures and activities throughout the years, and have collected and set up recipes for a recipe book of members, past and present, and friends. These will be available for purchase on the day of the anniversary.</p><p>Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church was organized 150 years ago by Welsh Coal Miners to worship and praise the Lord. Some of the Welsh activities are still ongoing &#8212; the Gymanfa Ganu (Hymn Sing) with a Welsh Te Bach to follow, a St. David&#8217;s Day Tea (to honor the Patron Saint of Wales), an Eisteddfod (a competition in music and poetry for all ages). All of these activities are open to the public.</p><style>
